Hello,
I have a Tecumseh TVM195 its a 8.0hp I believe but any ways I was using the machine and all the sudden a pretty violent cluncking was occuring so I shut her down and opened up the crank case and found that the 1 of the 2 bolts hold that holds the rod onto the crank was loose, hand tight. Well I was told that the manufacture didnt torque them right. I would imagine there is some wear in that sleave on the crank now but I think may be able to get buy with it, but I kneed the torque specs for those 2 bolts I cant find them any where, and I was hopeing some one would no here where I can find them. Let me know
Thanks

HI again, I finally got around to finishing the tecumseh project, I had to tighten the rod bolts and install a new govenor gear and spool. The reason I did this is above, I am not shir if I mentioned the govenor, but the gear broke on that and it took out the spool. But that has nothing to do with this.
So to the point, I tightend up the rod bolts thinking that the knocking would be gone. I started up the engine and it knocked as soon as it started, its not knocking near as loud as it was, its probably half the knock I had, but its still there. Is it possible the bearing on the top of the crank is bad, is there a bearing there? Let me know

Its not really a bearing in the sense one would think, the top and bottom of the crank run
on aluminum and in some cases a bronze friction bearing. I doubt this is where your noise is coming from. I would say that the rod at the crank journal is whacked out of shape, worn or both. You may have lost a few thousandths on the crank journal and it could also be some out of round. Only way to know is check it out with a caliper.
I wouldn't expect any service from this engine with the rod that lost its torque on one or both bolts.

so your saying to shoot it. what happend was the internal part of the govenor went out, causing the engine idle to go to the moon and back. When I opened it up I repaced the govenor and tightend the loose rod cap. any ideas where else this knocking would becoming from, besides the crank/rod connection

Bad News, The Tecumseh gave up on me today, sending the rod threw the block. I guess its target practice from here.
