The HLs near me all have zero slot cars, only a couple of LL sets. One of these sets is of course the demo derby set. I stopped in a HL in Saginaw a week ago and again, no slots. The only time I've ever seen slot cars in HL was in Bowling Green, KY and they were up front next to the candy and priced near MSRP. It's obvious that HL has no idea about what they are selling and if you are lucky you can work that to your advantage. With home decorating accessories, slot cars, inexpensive train sets, fake silk flowers, potpourri, candy, and sewing patterns, they've stretched the notion of "hobby" pretty thin. I see HL more as a mass mechandiser of inexpensive imported stuff from Asia, kind of like Wal-Mart without the toasters and shotguns.

Wal-Mart without the toasters.

Wall-Mart has toasters too? :D I thought all they had was DVD's, Die Cast's, and groceries.... :D

Take a look at Hobby Lobby's prices on the 1/35th Tamiya Military vehicles and the word inexpensive goes right out the window. :freak:

But they don't sell Thunderjets or Xtractions. There is two pegs of some life-like track. They seem to be more into Ho and N scale trains here or at least that is what their giving floor and wall space to. Toy section consists of - Two aisles of models, half a aisle to small rockets, a quarter aisle of model paint, a quarter aisle of coin collecting stuff and a aisle of the trains mentioned above. Now if you need picture frames - that's the place to go
( 12 aisles of frames )

I used to think the same thing, until they arrived and they had no slot cars. They are basically an alternative to Michaels, Pat Cataans, or JoAnns. Granted, they do have some scenery items but their prices and selection are no better than Hobby Town USA and there is absolutely noboby in the store that can answer any questions related to the products they sell. Except maybe questions about picture frames and faux flowers.

Hobby Lobby got it's start doing picture framing, thus all the attention to frames.
