TQ Cells!

It seems Steve does extensive tests on the cells and post all results. All that info is good to know, especially when new cells are around the corner.....

TQ CELLS

I looked at various comanies recently and wanted someone that was on top of all the new info out there. And most of all I wanted a matcher who actually RACES oval and is competitive and knows what it takes to be fast. I wanted someone Pro-Active not Reactive. Right now Steve and his company (TQ Cells) was what I was looking for.

Most of all what I like is you can bounce idea's off Steve and he is always gracious for the info. He also answers questions thoroughly and promptly. Heck I emailed him 3 times today and got responses in a matter of minutes. That is customer service.

My pet peeve is not having quick info.
I hate when people dont check email for months or playing phone tag to where it takes a week to finally hear back from somebody.

I guess if I had to run somebody else's stuff it would be SMC.
Simply their cells perform and last a long time. I have always had good luck with Pro-Match too, nothing bad to say about either of their cells.

well I luv my Fusion Power..but if I had to choose another battery I would have to go with Bones Motorsports Batteries.. I use to have some of his cells and they are really good.. There is some other drivers around here run them and are very happy with them.. He is a very small company but is very well known from here to Florida.

Now that I found World Class Batteries is still around, (some people said they closed) I will continue to get my batteries from them. Never had a bad cell and always have tons of RIP. Might check them out. I saw they had some fast drivers the last 2 years at the Snowbirds. I guess they have been doing something right, to be around for 15 years now.

If I'm not mistaken B&T is still matching at 20 amps! probably the reason for such high #'s,I run Pro-Match, but would probably be willing to try Fusion or TQ.Batteries are such a small part of the overall equation that it really doesn't matter as long as it's a reputable matcher, which there are a lot of nowadays.

John, your stuff is staying in my cars... for may reasons... #1, no more having to assemble batterys, #2, no need to get a bunch of cells and then re single cell match them myself lke I had to do with other people I have run for, because their machines are way off calibration, #3, your stuff strati runs the #, everywhere I go. Since i started running your batteries, and RIP motors, I haven't gone to a single race and felt like I was getting hammered down the straitaway... HP is no longer an issue for me, and I thank you for that.

On another note, did you get my e mail from my new address?

I use KMR Batteries,

KMR was the first battery company willing to come on board and help sponsor our Oval Series here in California, and offer all the "TOUR" drivers a discount as well.

My support will aways go to companies who support what we race...and support those drivers.

If I wasn't running KMR's, I'd probably be using KC Racing Cells or ProMatch, I might even consider those FUSION Batteries...I've heard and seen good things from all the above.

World class is still around but under new ownership.

I would say SMC or TQ is the way to go.

Fact is, there are a lot of really good matchers out there right now,so all this "who's is better" stuff is a mute point, everybody has their favorite, so go with the matcher that makes YOU happy and be done with it.

Fusion are the best!!
I have used just about every battery pack match out there todate.

Which pack would I run battery wise ???

I would run Lipo batteries are better then Nimh batteries with much
lower IR and are 1/3 of the weight of regular batteries.

This is going to be the future of R/C racing...

Pro-Match SMC I would like to try Fusion specially now that they have some special pricing on their website. I like Pro-Match & SMC coz I see a lot of racers use them which in turn tells me that their batteries does not sit a long time in the shelves of LHS. Thats prolly the reason they got rip & a lot of HP...they are fresh batteries.

Porksalot4L
08-04-2005, 08:51 PM
like i said b4 i really like WHIPLASH but if i was goin to run other packs it would be either maxamps because of the great price or fusion cause of the soldering process. other then those 2 factors i think it goes on who you trust. Terry Brown is as honest as anyone out there, as far as battery numbers go. Not to mention a great guy in general. Why switch?

John, I'll resend the email to the contact at the web page... please respond so I can add you to my list here.

If I had to switch.. I'd go to a guy that was local enough so I could finger thru the cells before they even get set up into packs, so I can match them by the labels myself.... New Wave being the guy, again, because he is local, and I could go thru stuff before it gets put together... and then single cell it myself on my T35 and match by those #'s.

Jason Lambert
08-12-2005, 12:22 PM
Actually, it's good that more people are doing ths stuff themselved.. for several reasons. #1, it open up alot more possibilities for different styles of matching, and stuff that might work out better then what one place is doing.. and everyone will know for sure 100%, what the cases really have in them. Not trying to imply or start any problems or anything.. but the thought that you are getting cases that are opened and already labeled does leave some possibility of cell swapping.

Jack Rimer

Dang! looks like SMC is losing a lot of business.

Actually, business is up over last year. We don't make that much matching cells for other companies so the impact is minimal. While we hate to lose any business, we still supply the industry with IB cells. It is nice to have quality matchers like EA and TQ confirming what we have been saying all along about the IB cells. As far as skimmimg the best cells....not only is it suicidal for business, it also is unethical and, on a more practical note, unnecessary. We are never lacking for quality cells so this is a total non-issue. We wouldn't be in business for as long as we have if we pulled shady crap like that.

Jason Lambert
08-12-2005, 03:30 PM
Jack, I never said anyone was skimming the crop.. jus the possibility of it happening probably doesn't sit well with some racers. If more people are doing their own stuff.. then they know that isn't happening at an upper level that the actual battery company doesn't even see... and it may rest better in some racer's minds knowing that not to be the case.

I don't think you, or any other large matcher would have any need to do such a thing anyway, the cells these days are so much more consistant then the old 2000 days that it's not an issue. Hell, I've seen New Wave packs with #'s that I know are as good as the best stuff that your guys get Jack, I know it's not happening. Just tossing the statement out there... as I've heard it mentioned before.

Keep up the good work, you're stuff runs great for alot of guys, has proven itself time and time again to be an excellent product, as have the other matchers stuff that you match for them.

Just to add to what Jack said. The cells I had at the snowbirds were one of the best batches that SMC had matched and it just so happend that it was my week to get cells. Everything I got was awsome. But I got every cell I ordered!! I think if it would have been other companies of yesteryear then I might have gotten the shaft and not gotten any good ones. But Jack, Danny and everyone at SMC are among the best if not THE BEST in the industry as far as integrity and honosty (sp?).

They have been working with IB since day one to improve the cell and its paying off big time so far. This is the best cell I have ever seen and it just keeps getting better as Steve from TQ has said as well.

SMC might have lost a few dollars from matching other companies cells but in the long run its better for them. #1 Because we still buy our cells from them so they still make a SMALL profit. #2 because now they can match more of their own stuff and sell more of their products which is better for them. So I would say they are doing better now that they dont have as many others to match for.

Just my .02 thats probably only worth .0005 to most people!!

EA

Jason Lambert
08-13-2005, 07:31 AM
Nope... .02 is worth .02, no matter where or who you are :)

I'm still gonna be intrested to see what happens with the GP cell... they were pretty good about making the 3300 as good as they could, changing it as needed, if the same holds true with the 3700, will it be better then the IB? Who knows... hopefully it will be competitive at a minimum.. will give people yet another option as far as what battery to run.
