If your oil smells like gas that means your carburator is flooding. check your spark plug after a few cranks and see if its wet. A spark plug wont spark if its wet. If its wet your getting to much fuel. Check your float in your carburator.

Checked spark pjug after a few pulls it was wet. Removed carb and checked float it seems to be working properly, any more suggestions. When I pull on it I get puffs of white smoak from the muffler but it doesent even sound like it wants to start. Thanks again

Does the oil fill show too much oil? If you got very much gas by the needle it should show extra, thin oil. If there is the slightest chance gas is in the oil it needs to be changed. It will trash your engine in short order.

well, you float may seem to be working properly, but make sure it doesn't stick, it may not have formed a hole and filled with gas but make sure it hasn't. other then that, trash may have gotten in there. and yes, change the oil, it will ruin the engine. after a few hours, i'd even change it again to make sure all the gas is gone, (some residual will be left behind) but you don't have to.
