Hey guy's
I use Testors #9203 Ink Jet white water slide paper. The problem i am having is, the paper does not maintain it's white color once i apply it to my car. All other colors are maintained fine. I follow the intructions very carefully and don't leave the decal in the water for more that 5 seconds. Matter of fact, the last few white decals i used i just turned them over, dipped my finger in water and applied only a drop or two of water. Just the bare minimum needed in order to separate the decal from the backing. However, the decal seems to look water-logged and has a greyish color instead of white. Also, i am using Testors bond spray #9200. I usually let it dry for about 30 min.-2 hours. (depending on how anxious i am).

Any ideas of what i may be doing wrong? Any suggestions on other brands i could try?

Thanks.

Never knew Testors made decal paper! Maybe you could "double-up" with a blank piece of the white shapes added under the decal you want to bring the white up. ??

Try this maybe. Seen the link posted around:

UPDATE:
I found that because i was not putting down a good gloss coat (eg:Future, etc.) prior to applying my decals, i was encountering something called "Silvering". Apparently, on non or dull-glossy, uneven surfaces air bubbles can get trapped and affect the appearance of your decals. The lighter the color, the more obvious the problem.

I was told to apply a good gloss coat then to use a decal set solution or Distilled Water Vinegar?? to help the decal set better.

Hope this helps any other novices out there who were scratching there heads in puzzlement over this problem like i was.

Thanks,

One thing I started doing when I was modeling was to spray a coat of Future floor wax over the clear coat to get a little more gloss from the clear coat. Once that set up, I would apply the decals and after they had set, shoot another coat for protection.

I started doing this after the clearcoat I used screwed up a couple of sets of decals that were custom made (to hot for the decal). rr
