Has anyone tried casting a mould from...say a deck lid?

I've tried a couple. They all involve high temp silicon in a blister and the part pressed into the silicon.

The first casting was to make a Cunningham C4R into a C4RK the "GT" version. This one I had to actually make the roof of the car. This was made from wood which I pressed into the silicone. After many moons...it dried. When the form was removed the void was poured with pewter. The form was then used as a press and moulded the inside roof.

The next casting was a hood for the "Ultimate Mail Car." After many failed attempts at just letting the pewter just slosh around the mould cavity I realized I'd have to press the pewter to get it to conform. I made a hood from J&B with the intentions of using for a press. But it worked so well I used the J&B hood for the finished car.

I just got a couple of Ferrari 312P beaters one is missing a rear deck. I've got the other deck in the silicon as I write. I figure at least 2 more weeks before it emerges. I'm trying something different as well on this. I'm going to try a split mould. Seperating the top and bottom with Press and Seal I hope they seperate and will make the much needed press action.

Just was wanting to know if anyone else has tried making their own castings?
