Just found this site.

This push behind mower is 2 years old. NEver had any problems with it until now. Wife was using this last week and it ran out of gas. Filled it back up and it would not start again. I have checked everything that i can think of on this.
Here is what it does. If you prime it it will run and then die right away, if you pour gas into carb it will run until gas is gone and die again. I have changed the spark plug, cleaned out the carb, replaced the carb gasket, replaced the muffler and gas cap. Still no good? I have worked on these engines since i was 10 , now 32 and am just lost.

Thanks in advance for any help on this..

diapragm carb? make sure the pickup tubes are clean, and the carb is on tight. that and the diapragm is on right...

quattro? well make sure of those things. if you want the owners manual, you can get it at the briggs website... you replaced just the gasket, or the whole thing, diapragm and gasket....?? sometimes when they run out, and well have never been run out before they can pick up the trash that is in that tank...clog the little pickup tube. also with some cleaner, make sure all the holes are blown out, and the tank is cleaned out. if it does have trash in it. since if it runs off gas poured in it, its not getting gas. and make sure the diapragm is on right, and wasn't folded, because that will make the diapragm not work

It doesn't say quattro on the engine or the cover, but comparing it to the picture on the manual, i believe it is, exactly the same, except for yard machines name on it, and the muffler is round instead of the long square type.

Well got the carb fixed, now holds the pressue all the time, went to another store and got the correct # this time, no replaces bs #.

Still the same thing, i'm wondering could the automatic choke/gov be messed up? i can see you can adjust this(if you have the covers all off) but nothing in the manual about it. Any help on this?

well, mtd most likely use their own logo on em, though its a briggs quattro, probablly ordered em with diff. mufflers. the quattro should be about the same as the classic, linkage wise, does it have a throttle control? or no hands prime and pull and full power right then, havn't worked on a newer quattro so i'm not sure. but it runs when you prime it, then it shuts off after it burns the fuel up? if dribbling fuel down the carb keeps it going, make sure the carb is completely clean, holes and all, its deffinently a fuel delivery problem, from either the diapragm not doing its job, or the pickup tubes are clogged. since thats about all on those that will cause fuel problems, that and unless the carb isn't tight on the tank.

It has an automatic chock/govern , i noticed that a spring that goes to the butterfly is messed up and streatch a little wonder if this would cause it, If i try to start without that spring on, does the same same.

well, if that spring is worn out, do replace it, just to clarify, when you prime it, it runs then cuts off? try dribbling gas down it, and see if it stays running, keep dribbling down the carb, and let off of the gas a bit, and see if it wants to stay running, or not, it may be the auto choke is messed up.

You might have a air pocket pluging it up. If your carburator has a bleeder valve open it and let gas run out for about 5 seconds. If your carburator doesnt have any gas. Did you connect the fuel line to the carburator while the gas tank was empty if so disconnect the fuel line where it connects to the carburator and let gas flow through for about 2 seconds and then connect it back.

its a diapragm carb, on the tank. same as a classic.

I say give the carb a good cleaning. When it ran out of gas, a peice of dirt must have been sucked up and then clogged one of the jets.
