Definitely a rookie question here......sheared the key on my 6.5 HP lawnmower engine. Am I correct that I need to pry up slightly while sharply striking the top of the crankshaft to remove the flywheel? I've been trying without success. Any help out there?

either buy a puller made for it, or take a wooden block, and put it up to the bottom of the flywheel, and hit it with a hammer, taking turns going around the flywheel and it should pop off. be sure not to hit the flywheel with the hammer directly because it may crack it. hense the block for to protect it some.

Thanks Bugman, turned out I dug out an old three-legged puller I had, put tension on it, then smacked the bolt of the puller......popped off first try!
