View Full Version : Does anyone make a 1965 GTO convertable?
txronharris 07-26-2005, 08:51 PM I've got a friend that would love to have a 65 GTO convertable. His dad;s is blue with a white top. Does JL or T-jet have anything? Even if it was a 65 convertable and not the same color, I could repaint it. I figured you guys that have been around here longer than me might know. Thanks for any help.
car guy 07-26-2005, 08:57 PM I don't think so, but you can check here....

micyou03 07-27-2005, 12:22 AM Someone had them as kits on ebay a while back, but they weren't getting much action. After about two or three weeks I didn't see them anymore.
txronharris 07-27-2005, 12:47 AM Thanks for you guys help! Does anyone know what year model this one represents?:

Sorry I don't know, but I'm more into NASCAR than muscle cars.
Thanks again for any help!
car guy 07-27-2005, 01:03 AM '69 or '70 is my guesstimate.
ParkRNDL 07-27-2005, 05:07 AM I thought HO Detroit did a '65, but that's a totally different class of toy... rather more like jewelry...
There's a blue one about halfway down the page on the right at this link:

Bear in mind his cars routinely sell on Fleabay for over a hundred bucks.

Slott V 07-27-2005, 02:11 PM Original Pontiac GTO's:
1964: LeMans option. Very rare today.
1965: GTO was it's own model. Similar to a 1964, but angled front design and rear. Both pretty square design overall. Motor Trends' "Car of the Year" for 1965!!
1968-1972: Shared platform. One of the most valuable GTO's today is the 1971 Judge 455 S.D. convertible in white. MAJOR bucks. Last year for a Judge. 1972 was pretty much a carry over from 1971.
1973: New Model. Mostly badging and poor performance. New smog laws killed the 455 starting 1971.
1974: Last year. Pathetic "Nova" platform running a 350 cu in motor. Just badges. Rare car today but an ugly pooch.
The Johnny Lightning in the link is either a '68 or '69. Haven't seen the HO car but if the rear tail lights are in the center of the bumper it's a '68. If they are in the upper half of the rear bumper it's a '69. 1970-72 was a model change with most obvious change being exposed headlights inside a redesigned endura bumper. 1970 brought out the behemoth 455 HO and Super Duty and brought Pontiac to the top ranks of the muscle car era food chain.
That HO Detroit 1965 model is awesome and is the only one I've seen.

rodstrguy 07-28-2005, 10:06 AM Very nice roger, Where can I find your list of bodies... Trades or monies???
ParkRNDL 07-28-2005, 11:19 AM I know that if it isn't the right year, it isn't the same, but Model Motoring does a '66 or '67 that could easily be cut into a ragtop. In fact, isn't that what the Fleabay kits were based on?

madsapper 08-06-2005, 09:58 PM I have a maroon 67 GTO convertable I bought off ebay last winter. Car is beautifully casted, but came only with body and windshield. You must supply all chrome from a donor. PM me if you are interested in the body....
