So to start it off with a question, any one have some tuning tips for Traxxas 2.5 engine? extremerc76 07-25-2005, 11:29 AM the traxxas 2.5 engine always likes to run hot, so richen up the high speed to keep it cool (turn the big needle valve left), and set your idle goodusing the stop screw on the side of the carb, have the truck running with all wheels on the ground and start with the idle high, have a friend hold the truck from going forward then slowly keep turning the stop screw out to lower the idle. you the idle as low as possible without the truck stalling. I also found that the engine runs better with traxxas top fuel run 10% i found that that's better than 20%. Do you have an infared thermometer, if not you can pickup one for about twenty five bucks at tempguns.com (i have the pe1 it's great) if you have a temp gun play with the carb settings so that the temp stays below 260f all the time. Keep in mind that it's better to run the engine cool than hot. also keep in mind that the hotter you run it the faster it goes. so it's speed or engine life. i replaced my tmaxx engine with an os .18. you can see them at osengines.com, i race so i needed the os for speed, and reliability. if you continue to have trouble with the 2.5 engine the i suggest upgradeing to an os, the 2.5 is a good engine, but very difficult to tune and has to be re tuned for every day depending on weather. the os is very dependable, and will start and continue to run no matter what, but like all engines must be broken in correctly. the os is alot easier to tune also xxx-s_t-maxx 07-25-2005, 01:04 PM Thank you so much, you helped me out alot. I had an idea of what i was doing, because my truck was pretty messed up from sitting a long time. THANKS!   extremerc76 07-26-2005, 11:08 AM no problem if you have any other questions just ask vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
