I've never seen that particular car but most Wellys go for $25 or less.

Check out this link. I look here occasionally to see what's going on in the 1:18 scale world.

This price seems high, but I'm no expert.

Omega,

Best I can tell, this is a generic version of Welly's Alan Moffat Australian '69 Trans Am Boss Mustang. The Moffat version -- with extra graphics etc -- is pretty valuable. This version is not the official version -- some of the sponsor graphics are different or missing (probably to avoid licensing fees.) Check out this link (http://www.eternallylost.com/boss302/coke.htm) to see the differences, and this one (http://www.historictransam.com/homepage.htm) to see some great pics of the full-size Trans Am cars.

I think the car is very cool and pretty decently detailed (I've held an George Follmer #16 car -- identical except for paint). When new, I think the models went for $50-60 -- if its in good shape and you can get it for half, I'd take it.

I saw some Welly's over at a diecast store in Riverside yesterday. They had a Boss 302 there selling for $25.00. I didn't look at it that closely. It was the exact same color but it might have been a street version.

edit: The one thing I did notice was that the Boss 302 striping did not look right to me.

riverside you say ... wow ....
last night precisely i was over at a hobby store in orange and was looking at the same 302 car .... it was red but the rims didnt quite do it for me .... that and the lines also looked funny .... it probably was the same car as the one you saw :D

Welly does a bunch of standard edition models, and they tend to go for $20-25 -- if you catch a sale at a toy store you can grab them for $15 or even less. But the quality of those cars is mediocre.

The Trans Am racer Boss cars were, I believe, a special cooperative effort between Welly and GMP. GMP's cars are premium models -- usually $90-120 in 1:18 scale. Rumor has it that during pre-production, GMP decided the Trans Am cars weren't quite good enough to justify the $90+ price tag, and the company didn't want to be precieved as moving downmarket by lowering the price. So... they released them to Welly to sell under their brand exclusively -- with no GMP badging. That way, Welly could sell them for what they were worth ($50-60) and nobody's reputation would be dented.
