View Full Version : Are there any music collectors here? (records, CDs, ect)
Captain Fred 07-14-2005, 10:03 PM Any other record collectors here?
I've been collecting records since I was about 14. Most of my records are LPs, but I have some 78s and some 45s too. I have had a bunch of colored vinyl & picture disks, but I sold & traded several of them off. I listen mostly to rock, but dabble in other genres too. My favorites are the novelty recordings. I'm a Doctor Demento fan from way back. I have a pretty good CD collection as well.
free spirit 08-05-2005, 07:31 PM hi captain fred i just joined hobby talk still surfing around to see what else is here .

'68malibu'er 08-24-2005, 10:34 PM Capt. Fred. I too listened to Dr. Dememto. Dead Puppies, Fish Heads, Vampire Beavers, etc. My record collection is unusual... the Crickets on 78, Herman's Hermits on 45 and everything you can imagine.
But my all-time favorite is "Lester the Roadhog Moran and His Cadillac Cowboys"
"Alive at the Johnny Mack Brown High School". Ever hear of it?
free spirit 08-27-2005, 02:21 AM i think captain fred thought he was alone l.o.l now there are 3 demento fans .dont remember lester the roadhog moran and his cadillac cowboys ,but fish heads and dead puppies i remember .and i think waylon jennings would have been one of the crickets when the 78 s were produced .
Captain Fred 08-28-2005, 04:31 PM Hey free spirit & Malibu'er!
Here is a link to the Doctor Demento online archives.

You can explore and listen to actual shows from recent to several years past. I've been listening to & downloading some of my favorite novelty tunes that are otherwise unavailable. There is a discussion forum there too, but last time I looked no one had responded to my post yet.
BTW, I actually have a 45" single of "The Free Mexican Airforce". I also recently found a picture record of Fred Blassie's "I bite the songs" album. Remember "Pencil Necked Geek & Geeks Revenge"?
I haven't heard Lester the Roadhog though.
free spirit 08-28-2005, 09:36 PM hey captain fred i checked out the site have to go back when i have more time .
fred blassies name sounds familiar ,pencil necked geek i remember .cool you have a single of that song the free mexican airforce ,i dont know why but i always liked that tune .guess its because i like all types of music we have it on an old cassette taped off the radio .but thanks for the info, ill check it out when i get a little better with the computer .and have a little more time im supposed to be packing boxes for our move and im listening to old records .l.o.l my hubby did say check them out before i packed them if they are no good toss them out ,maybe he means look at them l.o.l.

I have a picture disc of Hemispheres and a 10" red vinyl single of Analog kid. I think the last vinyl Rush album I bought was Signals. Everything since that one is on CD or from the internet. I have most of Soundgarden's albums on CD. I think I might also have Temple of the Dog. I have both of Audioslave's albums too. My favorite Audioslave song right now is "Doesn't remind me of anything".
My favorite decades for music are the 70s & 90s. There was some good music in the 80s too, but I'm kinda burnt out on a lot of it. I like a lot of the new rock too. We just went to Green Day a couple weeks ago. My daughter loves them. They put on a good show. I was glad that they played quite a few of their older tunes.

Reddwarf2 01-17-2007, 08:33 PM We (fiance and I ) still have most of the records we had as kids. We're in our early 40's now. Our fav's are the 45's from Apple records. We actually have a couple that were produced by Paul M and George H.

Lewbob 01-29-2008, 07:02 PM hey man,
nothing comes up but ringtone crap and advertisements. maybe the link got hijacked.
nsanderson92 03-12-2008, 06:54 PM my first record was Pink Floyd Darkside of the moon for 50 cents at a garage sale at the age of 13 now im fifteen and have collected some older stuff Thriller, Def Leppard, Ted Nugent my Fav.
scrambler81 03-18-2008, 09:13 PM I've still got all the vinyl from my high school days in the 70s, and the wife gave me a stereo with a turntable a few years ago, so I have something to play them on. Last year I found a guy that runs a booth at a local flea market, and his main deal is old records. He has tons of unopened albums from the 50s, 60s, 70s and early 80s. He also has some of the brand new re-releases of old albums. I've picked up a bunch of stuff like Joe Walsh, Ted Nugent, Deep Purple, some old R&B and others. I even got a remastered version of "Paranoid", since my old record was about played out. He closed down for the winter, but hopefully he'll be up and running again soon.
Atencio 04-14-2008, 12:47 PM I worked in a record store in the late 70's and have about 3,000 albums over that period. I primarily collect new wave and will get around to digitally recording them one of these days.
