im getting sick of messing with these stupid things! it seems 90% of my work is tecumsucks with carb problems! todays mess is a craftsman that i believe is running really lean. just sitting for about 30 secs the muffler is red hot! then when you try to restart it even hot you have to prime it. the carb is spotless inside so im wondering if its maybe the brass jet. i ran wire;air and carb cleaner through it. any clues before i buy this customer a briggs motor and shoot this peice of junk! thanks for letting me vent! f-n-m

buy him a briggs and shoot it......., though those tecumseh carbs should be walbro's, and pretty easy to fix...

This is exactly why I bitched and moaned about working on "To-suckys" when I was a small engine mechanic. Half the time I could make a Briggs with a clogged up carb run better than the Tecumseh with a new carb (this is assuming the Briggs had a Walbro carb and not a Nikki).

I agree that you should look out back and find a 3.5-5hp Briggs. Everytime someone asks if I can look at their machine, because it doesnt start, I ask-" is it a craftsman?"

well, don't think all craftsmans use tecumseh.... they do use briggs and honda, personally only what i would use is briggs, all i use is briggs.
