Now IMO this is one Horror flick that SHOULD be remade.
I always loved this little cult gem and always wondered how it would do with a decent budget.
The only problem is, who could ever replace the detestable Alan Ormsby Character?

A couple of years ago my wife and I were in Suncoast Video. We were teasing each other about the truly awful DVD's we would buy, and I mentioned "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things." The guy behind the counter, who was listening to us the whole time, starts pounding away at the keyboard and 10 seconds later announces, "We've got that." When I expressed my disbelief, he trotted over to the discount bin and produced a copy, smiling the whole time. For 5 bucks, I couldn't pass it up!

I saw the original film in the theaters in 1972 and it scared the you-know-what out of me. Of course, it was the first zombie film I had ever seen, and I was only 11 years old at the time... "Deck the halls with bones of Orville..." :p
