View Full Version : Sittin' on the shelf, waiting...
Warped9 07-07-2005, 05:48 PM Alright, time to fess up. You've got kits you couldn't wait to buy...yet there still sitting up on a shelf or tucked into a closet still waiting to be built. Cards on the table, what have you got? :)
- Years ago I picked up an 18" AMT TOS E with the intention of eventually accurizing it to the best of my ability and maybe even lighting it up. Well I did work on it, albeit slowly, but weeks dragged into months and then years...and then PL gave us their little 1/1000 jewel and my old kit lay forgotten. Periodically I've thought about it and what work I'd put into it, but I just don't have the drive to carry out my original intent anymore. Lately I've been thinking of a backup plan of converting it into something like a conjectural refit I'd once dreamed up (and may even have posted diagrams of here on these boards).
- AMT/Ertl movie refit E that candidly I have no intention of building any more.
- AMT/Ertl 1701D. Ditto.
- TMP Vulcan shuttle I picked up for a great price at a friend's hobbyshop a few years back. Box and kit in great condition.
- AMT/Ertl Klingon D7, same situation and condition as the aforementioned Vulcan shuttle.
- AMT/Ertl K'tinga Battle Cruiser.
- DS9 Runabout.
- Babylon 5 Starfury. Nice kit.
- A couple of PL TOS E's. (Well, I'd bought six of 'em)
- A couple of PL TOS Klingon D7's (I'd bought three)
- TIE Interceptor.
- B-Wing Fighter.
- Spider-Man.
- Batman repop.
- Nautilus from a tv version of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Interesting kit.
Zombie_61 07-07-2005, 06:17 PM I couldn't possibly list all of my "still waiting" kits here, as I have over 200 of them. :p
El Gato 07-07-2005, 06:34 PM I'll bite:
- one 18" AMT/ERTL TOS E
- one 22" AMT/ERTL cutaway TOS E that I'll build as a conceptual ship
- one ERTL E-A that I swear I'll accurize (just last week I bought some new parts from FedMod)
- one ERTL E-B
- one ERTL E-C
- two ERTL E-Ds (one as a series, the other as the AGT version)
- one E-E
- five (I think) PL 1/1000 TOS Es
- three PL 1/1000 Klingon D7s
- ERTL's "Space ship set" (TOS E, D7, BOP)
- one set of the 1/2500 E-B, E-C, E-E
- one Bandai's Voyager :(
- one Revell Voyager special edition
- one DS9 fiber optic kit
- one Revell B5 Starfury
- two SDF-1s
- one space shuttle
- one Wright Brothers flyer
- one of each Fine Molds SW kits
- several Mazinger Z models, in either vinyl, plastic or resin
- one resin Mazinkaiser kit
- several "super robot" models from various Go Nagai's series
I'm sure I've forgotten a couple, and they're not as many models as most around here, but enough to make my wife wonder how many more I need. She'd never prevent me from getting more, but I'm sure she wonders. :)

John P 07-07-2005, 10:40 PM Alright, time to fess up. You've got kits you couldn't wait to buy...yet there still sitting up on a shelf or tucked into a closet still waiting to be built. Cards on the table, what have you got? :)
Are you kiddin' me?
I just rearranged the basement shelves and added some storage cubes.
I'll take some pictures tomorrow, provided my 256 meg flash card is big enough .
John O 07-08-2005, 09:12 AM Ummm ....no. I mean, yes I have my own personal model mother load of had-to-have-but-haven't-done-anything-with kits that stretches my brain bringing even a partial inventory to mind, but I'm not gona write it all down anywhere. No way!!! I learned not to do it with $$$ spent on my hobby cars, so I don't do it with my models either. However, I keep reciepts so when I go to sell something and the jerk/buyer wants to give me a pittance for something I've dumped a ton of money over, the receipts usually shut him up and make him bargain in good faith.

ClubTepes 07-08-2005, 11:35 AM 200 really isn't that high of a number. But in the case of the ST/SW kits they take up a lot of room because of the boxes.

I haven't taken a picture of my space, but I think I could give John a run for his money.
PhilipMarlowe 07-08-2005, 02:06 PM I live in a 2 bedroom condo with a wife and two kids. For the small amount of storage space my wife doles out to me, I gotta a lot of kits. If I had more room, I could see building up the unbuilt pile to 200 real fast!
Zorro 07-08-2005, 02:12 PM Thanks to eBay and these boards, I've been able to pare my collection of unbuilt kits down to a relatively manageable 50 or so.
Jimmy B 07-08-2005, 02:40 PM I've got many on the shelfbut the number is dwindling. My taste is figure kits, so needles to say when PL was in there hey-day (say '99 to 2002) I bought about 20 kits a year and built maybe 2. Now that has compleatly reversed
John P 07-08-2005, 04:10 PM First off, what's this thread doing in the movies section?
Secondly, here's my answer --
The left side of the cellar workshop:

The right side:
http://inpayne.com/temp/cellarplanes.jpg
Aaaand the attic:
http://inpayne.com/temp/attic2005.jpg
Oh, and there's a few boxes of airplanes tucked away behind the starships.
And just cause you can't see the far end of the cellar on the left due to the distance, here it is from the other angle:

El Gato 07-08-2005, 04:13 PM ^ Holy cow! You only have two PL refits??

John P 07-08-2005, 06:53 PM ^ Holy cow! You only have two PL refits??
José
No, four!
I...just can't remember where I put the forth ...
Oh wait! I have about a dozen "big" kits tucked under my wife's dollhouses!
uss_columbia 07-09-2005, 04:10 PM I just did a quick count: 153 (might have miscounted by a couple, though). Waiting for a few more that are on pre-order.
My selection comprises 1:2500 trek, 1:1000 trek, 1:350 trek, 1:350 ships, 1:48 aircraft, and a few odd 1:24, 1:32, 1:72, 1:144, and 1:200 planes, vehicles, and spacecraft.
I tend to acquire at about 10 times my build rate, but I've already stashed most of what I want, so the acquisition rate has tapered off a lot.
John O 07-10-2005, 09:40 AM So, JP, I just had to bring my SO into the computer room to look at your pics. It went like this:
The left side of the cellar workshop:
"Oh my God..."
The right side:
"Oh MY GOD!!"
Aaaand the attic:
"Holy S#!T!!!"
For my hoarding habits compaired to yours, my SO finally said of me, "John, you're not so bad".
Thanks for making another woman happy with her man
John O.
Warped9 07-10-2005, 10:15 AM JP, your collection is simply, um, just... :freak:
drewid142 07-12-2005, 04:01 PM You guys have me beat but I've been building my collection for about 10 years now without actually building anything. My wife and I bought a house 3 years ago, and we're building out the basement to include a workshop for me... so this winter I will actually start BUILDING models instead of collections. I have been laying out custom Photo-etch parts for my builds to be.
My collection... from memory...
Nautilus (66 inch kit, 32 inch kit, & 9 inch kit)
Proteus (Wilco and Lunar)
Jupiter II (Polar Lights)
Saturn V (1/96 Revell)
Apollo CSM (1/32 Revell)
(3) Mercury Spacecraft (Captain Cardboard)
Mercury & Gemini (1/48)
About 20 kits from RealSpace Models
Lost in Space Robot
Robby Robot
(3) Enterprise (1/350 Polar Lights)
(2) NX-01 (1/350 Polar Lights)
X-Wing (1/72 Finemolds)
Tie Fighter (1/72 Finemolds)
Millenium Falcon
Redstone Jupiter C (1/72)
Wright Brothers Flyer
I probably left off a few good ones but that's what I remember having... I'm going to start off with the custom PE parts and assemblies for the Lunar Proteus, The PL Enterprise, and the PL Jupiter II.
