have you checked the flywheel key?

flywheel key is good. Replaced that also. Currently cleaning the carb.

as for good, all sides are flat.... and not uneven, also if the adjustments are way too outta wack, say too lean to even run, or too rich to run, which would gas foul the plugs, you won't get much. it won't start on starting fluid?

does it even pop or anything? if its been sitting you may have a stuck valve.

I suspect a problem with the valves. It sounds like they are stuck like fords-n-mowers said or they are just leaking because they are too far out of spec. I would pull the valve cover off and check the valve clearance. Spin the engine over to TDC on the compression stroke and then turn it a little further until the piston drops about 1/4" into the cylinder. Now check the clearance on both valves. If I remember correctly, the intake valve should be about 0.007"-0.009" and the exhaust should be 0.009"-0.011" but you should probably get someone to check those numbers for you. If the clearance is too tight, you will need to remove the valve and carefully grind a little bit off the stem until it you get the correct clearance. If you are going to do this, it would also be a good time to lap the valves to get a better seal.
