View Full Version : Another Casting Call: Forbidden Planet
Old_McDonald 07-06-2005, 01:38 PM I was watching my DVD last night for Forbidden Planet. I never get tired of that movie. I had read on the Sci-fi Wire some months ago that a new movie was going to be made. Who would you cast for the following roles today?
Captain
First officer
Doctor
Cook
Morbius
Alta
Zorro 07-06-2005, 02:40 PM Please, God, not Jessica Alba in the Anne Francis role!
Captain - Leslie Neilson
First officer - Bruce Campbell
Doctor - Sam Jackson
Cook - Jim Carey
Morbius - Gary Oldham
Alta - Paris Hilton
Robby - Anthony Daniels
tongue in cheek as always
Use all the old SPFX shots
Add a Kraftwerk sound track
Do all the costumes as if they were gonna be in a Fireball XL-5 episode

Better than Jessica Simpson. Leslie Neilson can reprise his role as the Captain with the help of a little CGI and a shatner-esque girdle.
John P 07-06-2005, 03:25 PM Alta - Paris Hilton
Wouldn't work, Alta has to be attractive.
John P 07-06-2005, 03:29 PM Okay, let's seee...
Captain - Russel Crow
First officer - Sam Neil
Doctor - Gary Senise
Cook - Sean Aston
Morbius - Gary Oldman is a good idea!
Alta - Kate Winslet? Lindsay Lohan + 20 pounds? Poppy Mongomery? Kiera Knightly? Ummm...ummm...
El Gato 07-06-2005, 04:37 PM How 'bout SMG or Charisma?
mmmm, Sarah Michelle....
mmmm, Charisma....
José
El Gato 07-06-2005, 06:56 PM Paris Hilton?? Yeah, sure cast her if you want the movie to suck... er... ah... um... :freak:

Sarah's too little and skinny, and Charisma's too old. Alta was, what, 19? Nobody's gonna believe Charisma is 19 any more.
And how do you match Anne Francis!!?
And how do you match Anne Francis!!?
Scarlett Johansson? Just saw preview for "the Island" It looked like a "Logan's Run" re-imagining (if they still use that term), but looked good none the less. They have given a lot away in the preview. When they do this, it usually means the film isn't so good...

Doesn't matter :D

I'm tryin', I'm tryin'!
Actually, I agree with you that a Lindsay Lohan circa 2003-04 would be a good match. The current 12-year-oldish blonde skinny waif... er not so good.

She was great in "Lost in Translation" and "Ghost World". A good actress who is young and sexy in a very natural way.
spe130 07-07-2005, 03:03 AM Here's an idea...anyone proposing to remake "Forbidden Planet" be drug out into the street and beaten with a limp garden hose... :drunk:
Although I'll agree about Lindsay Lohan...put 20 lbs back on that girl, let the hair go back to red, and yum...
lonfan 07-07-2005, 08:10 AM Alicia Witt This Red Head Hottie was on Cybil Shepperd's Show (Not Moonlighting the Sit Com! lol)
Love the Gary Oldman Idea!
Is The Fella Still Alive who First Voiced Robby? Ala' they could do it the way Newline Did with the L.I.S. remake and use the ORIGINAL Guy! Just Wish they'd used the ORIGINAL Robot Design. I realize some guys Hate this 1990's version of L.I.S. But ALTHOUGH NOT half as good as the original,IMHO Still an enjoyable Film UNLIKE The POTA remake,Don't get me started on that! lol

My thoughts exactly! You just cant remake perfection...only way to even come close is to let Peter Jackson Handle it......But with my luck ... Berman and Braga will get signed to do it. lol
Love the Gary Oldman Idea!
As far as I'm concerened, Gary Oldman could play any of the (male) parts and he'd be great. He has always been fantastic in whatever he does.
BEBruns 07-07-2005, 12:06 PM I think one actor who has the presence and the voice and is the right age for Morbius would be Dennis Haysbert (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0371660/).
spe130 07-07-2005, 12:41 PM The funny thing is, as perfect as "Forbbiden Planet" is, it was never finished. The studio showed a fairly complete rough cut to a test audience, and they liked it so much that it was just released as-is. The directors never got the chance to put their finishing edits on it.

In which case, Beyoncé as Alta?
Rattrap 07-07-2005, 03:22 PM In which case, Beyoncé as Alta?
Actually, that's as good a suggestion as I've heard.
Zorro 07-07-2005, 05:17 PM Yeah, I'd travel through interplanetary space and battle an Id monster for a chance at Beyonce'.
FoxTrot 07-08-2005, 05:54 AM There was all this talk about New Line possibly doing a re-make, and Frank Darabont as director, but it all fell through on last count didn't it...? Fox

Has anybody offered up the story boards or the concepts of the missing scenes that never made it into the movie? eg: the fight between Morbis and the ID creature?
1701ALover 07-08-2005, 11:40 AM Ooh...I really like the idea of Dennis Haysbert and Beyonce'. I've always loved Dennis, and Beyonce' is beautiful, she's got the acting chops to pull off the character. I do hope that if this movie is made that it's a faithful remake and not the kind of rock 'em-shock 'em schlock that was "The Amityville Horror" retread. Sheesh!!!

The digital Bits web site has the cover art for a Special Edition Release of the original Forbidden Planet. Perhaps these things will be included. The cover art can be seen here: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/upcomingart10.html
spe130 07-08-2005, 12:47 PM If the SE ever gets released...maybe next year for the 50th anniversary...
omnimodel 07-09-2005, 04:50 PM Anna Faris (who did the best Cameron Diaz impression ever in Lost in Translation) would be perfect for Alta... you need someone who can pull off naive and sexy at the same time.
