I purchased this at WallyWorld this morning and watched it w/my daughter. I liked it. VERY faithtful adaptation to the novel - which is one of my favorite SF novels of all time. Very poorly done VFX that were, as others have said, unconvincing, but that was only an annoying minor bit for me. I also hated the colored filters they were using. No clue why they did that, but it was even more annoying then the poor VFX.

I thought the story was fairly well paced, as it followed the novel fairly well. It only seemed to drag in a couple of spots, IMO. I also rather liked how they Martian Tripods were designed, tho again, the execution wasn't the greatest. The whole scene w/the Thunderchild and other British warship were equally sad to view.

Still, I don't feel at all that I wasted either my time nor money. As an added bonus, my daughter (Alison, 8) wants me to dig up my copy of the novel or go buy one so we can read it together.

I just saw yet another version of WOTW at Blockbuster starring Jake Busey and C. Thomas Howell?

Yeah, I had seen info on that, as well. I even looked for it at WallyWorld this morning, but they didn't seem to have any in-stock. I'd like to get it, as well, if only for comparison to this Pendragon Films version, as well as the Spielberg version (which I've still not seen).

Dang it! Sorry! :(

I had done a search prior to starting this thread and it didn't pull up "Pendragon Films". I even went w/the wildcard. I'd have just posted in that thread, believe me. What's the exact thread title?
