View Full Version : New Dirt Oval in Ravenna, Ohio
Freddie's Hobbies 07-01-2005, 07:07 AM There is a new track in Ravenna, Ohio. Freddie's Hobbies is putting in a 3/4 banked oval with a 190-foot drive line. First race is scheduled for July 4th, then its racing every Friday night under the lights. The track will be made up of 6 inches of blue glay and if all goes well it will be a foam only track. We have the AMB scoring system, and the ability to read your personals. As racing will start July 4th we will race what shows up as long as we have at least 3 for the class. This is new to me so have some patiences. The store will also start stocking Customworks cars and parts. Any questions please feel free to call or write here on the thread. There will be pictures showing the progress on the web sight http://www.freddieshobbies.com Hope to see you there !

Can't wait to try out the track. Are you going to be running Friday nights along with the Sat afternoon racing, or are you going to switch from Friday to Sat?
Thanks, Dale
Freddie's Hobbies 07-18-2005, 01:44 PM We wil run Friday evenings starting at 7 pm. we also will start running Sundays starting at noon. WE will make sunday July 31. the first Sunday. This way it should let those who cannot make it here in time on Friday evenings, pleanty of time to get here on Sunday. Depending on how many show up will determain if we run 2 or 3 qualifers plus the main. Hope to see you there and Bring friends :)
johnqpublic 07-18-2005, 03:20 PM What are the class rules?
Freddie's Hobbies 07-19-2005, 10:45 AM Basicly the same everywhere else you go. Stock open wheel is just that stock 27 turns with 6 cells. Modified sprint is modified 6 cells. all the 1/18th scales run together for now, until a larger group shows up to split them. This is all new to me as well, so I am lissening to the season racers clue me in on whats what. By the end of summer I will know the ropes. The goal is to ALWAYS have a good time :) and almost forgot foam only
johnqpublic 07-19-2005, 01:01 PM Thanks. What about tires (foam, rubber, etc)?
Freddie's Hobbies 07-19-2005, 01:02 PM Foam only !

Want to send out a big THANK YOU to Freddie for putting in the DIRT OVAL. Also to Ron Williams for putting the idea to Freddie.
Was out there last night and had a blast! Nice little oval that takes the $$$ out of racing and puts it in the skill of the driver! Track was smooth and fast. Hope to start making it a regular stop on Friday nights. Had a chance to run my nitro car after the races, and it looks like they will also be alot of fun to run there.
Anyway, just wanted to thank all involved for building the track, and hope alot of you will come and check it out.
Dale
mike wegman 07-23-2005, 05:11 PM So How Many Mod Edm's Are You Guys Getting?
Wally, Give Me A Call
johnqpublic 07-23-2005, 07:08 PM I'd go just 'cuz of the name Fred...
dirtoval.com 07-23-2005, 08:00 PM will you guys run Nitro?
Freddie's Hobbies 07-24-2005, 08:52 AM Running Nitro ? of course, on Sundays. Starting on the 31st of July we will start running Sundays along with our Friday nights. I know Friday nights are hard for guys to get off work, go home get their things, and then race over here to be here by 7 pm. Most guys have a far way to travel. So on Sundays we will start racing at noon. this will do two things for us.
1.) Give the guys who travel a long distance, the time to get here.
2.) I really did'nt want to Run the Nitro in the evenings. I want to be kind to those around me. Now on sunday during the day ? lets go for it. Nitro is always exciting !
Anymore question just ask away ,and forgive my crappy spelling
johnqpublic 07-27-2005, 09:21 PM Do you get many/any EDMs?
BDDelbert2 07-27-2005, 10:28 PM
I think there was 4, maybe 5 there Friday night. I know of at least 3 other guys that have them, and have raced them on the carpet there, so you can probably count on them to start showing up. We ran 19 turn / 6 cells on the carpet, and I think that is what they are running on the oval. I'm getting mine ready for this weekend, so we'll see how many we get.
Dale
Freddie's Hobbies 07-28-2005, 07:43 AM Considering the track is brand new, and we only raced on it three times, its hard to say what we get. I can tell you I sold another 4 more EDM bodies this week. Will they be done for this weekend? I dont know but I am sure they will be here in the future.
Just come on out and bring yours, this way we will have one more to add to the list, more is better so I here :)
PS. don't be shy
johnqpublic 07-28-2005, 08:09 AM Well, it is a bit of a drive, but a couple of us from NY have been talking about it. I'll guess 2-1/2 hours for me. How far would you say you are from Erie? It takes me about an hour and a half to get there.
You might want to consider putting some info for your track on dirtoval.com.
Freddie's Hobbies 07-28-2005, 08:58 AM IF I remember right only about 1/12 hours I am thinking , I should tell you I am one not good at all with time frames :) I think Sunday would be your better choice of coming down. Mansfield isn't running so we may have alot of people here. The weather is suppose to be nice and not to hot. If you can make it I would love to meat you. If not I am sure will will meat in do time. I am putting together a spring car myself, and plan on hitting others tracks and see how they do thing. We got to share.
Hope to see ya
PGoogs 08-01-2005, 05:16 PM We had 7 EDM's, actually 6 and one guy with a buggy body. Myself and Freddie (the owner) have been having good luck with running B4's. We run them stock for now but we could split the class and run mod also if we get more people!
Paul G.
Freddie's Hobbies 08-02-2005, 08:53 AM I let Chicken TOm run my car after the racing, he noticed I had a broken front shock tower ? no wounder my car wounld'nt turn. Ray had his modified out with us which looked really cool. I think with the brothers all buying EDM bodies for their cars we should have 10-12 EDM's every time we race, just with our guys. Modafied is coming soon I can feel it :)
