View Full Version : Correct carb settings for the LST?

Hello all,
I am asking all LST owners out there what you have you high-speed\low-speed needle settings set at. I am having trouble finding a good mix between performance and overheating. It seems the only time the truck runs cool it is rather sluggish It runs great when I lean it out but then it over heats

I have the Venom Smart Temp FailSafe installed and I think it might be the problem. The readings seem a bit random and it never seems to shutdown for the specified temp. For example, I set it to 230F and the max temp during a run will reach 252F without the Failsafe working. If I set it to 270F, the truck never runs hotter than 252F but it seems that the fail safe is activating all of the time and the truck act like I am hitting the gas, then slamming on the brack (no brake is applied), then slamming on the gas, etc... If I disconnect the failsafe, the truck never hesitates at all. So at the moment I am very disapointed in the VST

So all I was hoping to do was try others LST needle settings to see if my LST likes any of them

Thanks

I would ditch the failsafe and get a temp gun. Always tune your nitro motor to produce good smoke and power. Every nitro engine will run a little differently than another (even engines of the same brand). Some engines like to run on the hot side (260-270) others prefer to run cool (210-220). As long as the engine is producing a nice trail of smoke and not running too lean or too rich, it should be fine. As the motor breaks in, the temps will drop and power will increase. My LST motor didn't fully break in until I had at least a gallon of fuel through it.

Also, it may depend on the type of fuel you're using. 20% nitro in a .26 engine will run hotter than 30% nitro and produce less power.

Did I read this correctly? It will run HOTTER with 20% than 30%?

yes... nitro burns cooler than oil. So a fuel with a higher nitro content will actually burn a little cooler because it has a lower percentage of oil.
