i am new to this forum, hello to everybody that reads this. i have a briggs 6.5hp it wasn't starting. i changed the plug, ac, took off gas tank and carb, drained the gas(didn't rinse tank) soaked the carb, put back together. started right up twice( three different days) the day i used it it ran and i took a break, then it wouldn't start and the primer doesn't seem to be working all the time. i ran it a couple times just to observe and it would run then sputter. run and sputter and sometimes die. is the carb still dirty? any body have any ideas? thanks in advance.

the primer doesn't work right? this should be a quantum, did the gasket between the carb and filter box get torn? or was it hard. it may not be sealing correctly/ not tight enough, and not letting the primer work right. or the primer has a hole where its not supposed to be. or the engine revs up and down, or runs great, sputter with no smoke or sputter with black smoke/white.?

i checked the gasket, it seems ok. i retightened the bolts and the primer seems to be working. i ran it for a while. this time it didn't sputter and quit but when i shut it down it wouldn' restart. then it had no spark. i am guessing the ignition is bad. am i correct?

yeah it may be the coils failing, if you did check the spark right. either you should get a jolt or the plug when grounded should spark.

i changed the coil and followed the instructions but it doesn't seem to be getting spark. i used the card that came with the coil maybe i didn't get it close enough. any suggestions. could the new coil be bad.

did you put the coil on the right way? if put on upsside down you will get no spark.

yeah, it should say (out) on the coil. plus if it wasn't tightened down good and rechecked, it might've gotten out again, of course new ones can be bad.
