Hello my name is Robert and my sons name is Kelly. We a newbies. As I will be getting alot of parts and motors and drivetrains and modifying them could I get the basics of what the good names are and what the bad names are?We do not know what products are good and what is bad.I also need to know if there is Chilton type of book for technical information and also where I may purchase special tools like tork wrenches indexing -feelers compression gauges and what not for RC cars.I have the ability to duplicate any part out of any material and knowledge to make posotive modifications just no base knowledge of the good and bads.We thank you and hope to meet many good people on this site.

Well its a fair assumption that you get what you pay for. Any hobbyshop will be able to direct to what stuff is good and what stuff is junk. Your best bet is to get a couple magazine subscriptions and slow down on modifying things. Usually new people need quite a bit of time just learning the basics like turn the transmitter on before your car etc.

Thank you Pat agreed in anything reasearch is the key.As I have placed a few things like a mini mill and lathe up for trade I was just inquiring of a good name of brands of parts. My wife will not be too agreeable if I use savings and credit card to finance things so I will be obtaing most in trade. As my son has shown a great interest in this I will proceed for a bulk amount of used items in this field.I will be getting alot of used items I beleave I just would like to know what the basic "good names are".We have owned a couple gas cars in the past the were only a couple hundred each and he did take care of them.

If you don't have a local hobby shop (which I recomend going to) www.towerhobbies.com (http://www.towerhobbies.com) has almost everything you could need.
Nitro is not my thing, but I know a guy who has info on almost everything under the sun.

Well as far as car kits go you can't go wrong with Team Losi or Team Associated and radio gear I like JR and Airtronics. For chargers or ESC's I like Novak, Tekin, and LRP for Nitro engines you can't beat O.S. and for fuel Trinity is the most available and one of the best. That's a quick lowdown.

what do u race off road buggies trucks or what and pat is right losi or associated is good it depends on how u drive, and i recomend futaba for radio gear and servos, and i would stick with novak for your electronics, for chargers either novak or competion electronics, and fuel i suggest to anyone odonnels i have had the best luck with that, and it is a nice blend, engines i would go with rb concepts or os and nothing else, so that is my 2 cents if u want more info just ask man. And welcome to the hobby Rob and Kelly.
