View Full Version : roar membership tintmanpa 06-19-2005, 11:28 AM how long does it take to get my membership....i joined at a local roar event awhile back and recieved nothing yet.... Herc Driver 06-19-2005, 09:41 PM I had the same thing happen about two years ago...never joined again JRN 06-19-2005, 10:20 PM hi ifyou joint at the race at steel city in may i did also and i just got mine the end of last week later john hankster 06-19-2005, 10:22 PM I have seen where you normally get it within 2 weeks from ROAR receiving the information. Now if the track you signed up takes their sweet time sending in the info to ROAR, it will take longer. Best bet would be to email Fred Hohwart at FredROAR@aol.com and see if they received the info (they can't send it unless they receive it). Mike@SteelCity 11-12-2005, 06:32 PM The Oval Region II race that SCH hosted for ROAR last spring was riddled with problems on the ROAR end. SCH followed all rules to a "T" and everything was smooth sailing on the tracks end. Although, ROAR did mention that SCH owed money after the event as they said members signing up track-side would make the track an extra $5 per member. That was BS so we just sent ROAR a check which means SCH over paid ROAR by more than $100 - I do not have exact numbers. Needless to say, everyone should have had their membership within 4-6 weeks of that race day, even with ROARs delay. We ran a ROAR race today and ROAR SUCKED. They did nothing to help promote and a few racers backed out because of it. For a track owner to push and support ROAR, and to pay hard earned money on awards and track improvements for the "big event," it sure IS NOT worth a cent. More to come. MR burbs 11-13-2005, 12:49 AM wellif Roar keeps making more people mad then they do happy. it will be one less big race a year we need... we have to many sanctioned races as it is.. if roar cant get online with the other bodies they should take a hike, and let a sanctioning body that can really get things done for the hoby do its work.. Mike@SteelCity 11-13-2005, 01:33 AM SCH wanted to build creditability in the RC world so we turned to ROAR 1st. The first race, Region II Oval, was ok. There were some bumps along the way. Then we turned to ARCOR. That sanction body was 100% more organized and a total pleasure to work with. And lastly, we turned to ROAR again to try our hand at on-road racing... a total disappointment from every angle. Our weekly racing program is so much more organized and it pulls in much higher numbers with out any of the hassle, and extra-spent money. MR  wellif Roar keeps making more people mad then they do happy. it will be one less big race a year we need... we have to many sanctioned races as it is.. if roar cant get online with the other bodies they should take a hike, and let a sanctioning body that can really get things done for the hoby do its work.. EAMotorsports 11-13-2005, 02:23 AM Hey Mike I know your pain. We had 30 entries today at our region 3 on road champs. Last week at our CLUB RACE we had 40 entries. Most of the locals didnt race because they know its a waste of their money to buy the ROAR membership with the way its been ran the past few years. And before anyone says it...I did volunteer my time and found it real fast it was a WASTE of my good time. They want you to do everything for them out of YOUR pocket and NOT RACE....Yea right!! LOL EA burbs 11-13-2005, 05:47 AM My Biggest gripe is roar has a so called oval committee.. Why do they get the final say. they should be able to discuss topics, and get rid of the bad ones.. then the topics they find credible should go to a member vote.. I dont care if 5 people send in there ballots.. It should be our say.. we pay the mebership, and all we get now is screwy ever changing rules with absolutley no posotive effects on our hobby.. Raptor_MS 11-13-2005, 03:37 PM ROAR members should speak up and "vote in" someone that will try to change the way things are done. You can scream from the outside all you want, until you get inside, you'll never be heard....... How does this "Oval Commitee" work? Are they elected as well? If they are picked, who picks them? What is the life-span of their position? Kenny@RAPTOR EAMotorsports 11-13-2005, 04:36 PM Hey Kenny, While I admire your enthusiasim you'll see once you get in that what you say still doesnt mean a damn thing....But best of luck to you. If I would have gotten a revup I would have voted for you. EA JB 11-13-2005, 05:37 PM Mike: Thank you for the nice words...I try for a one man (women) operation. BullFrog 11-13-2005, 07:58 PM Okay -I'll jump in just to get my head chewed off. I don't understand what ya'll are complaining about. You want a say so in ROAR it takes membership to vote. It's a waste of my money- it helps govern the races whether its a ROAR santioned race or not. Everyone seems to use the rules when they are convenient to them.I can't speak for your region director I can only speak for me.My phone number is listed if you care to call. A local ,regional and national race all are promoted by the hosts. It always has been.Roar memberships are the responsiblity of the persons doing the race.It takes TWO weeks from Florida to California and to your hands.I collect the money on the weekend and it goes in the mail monday or tuesday.I did the ROAR check in for the Florida on-road nationals this year. I contacted Fred and they were all recieved and mailed within that period.I hear all the time that it takes weeks to recieve your membership. No it takes the one collecting the money to send it in!Not every is like me in sending in the money. If you want to jump down ROARS backside every time someone does not send the money they collected in a timely fashion then go ahead. Look to the person collecting the money- did they give you a reciept?I do.I would contact Fred and see if he has recieved your application. If not look to the person that collected the money or the race promoter. Raptor_MS 11-13-2005, 08:22 PM To settle that issue, tracks should give you the information packet to mail off yourself. That way, you know exactly when it was mailed. Some tracks are very slow at mailing off the memberships. Put that in the racers hands and that "qerk" will be resolved. Make sure they send it "registered", then everything will be timestamped for those that dare to toss the blame elsewhere. Kenny@RAPTOR BullFrog 11-13-2005, 08:42 PM Nope it won't get mailed.90% of the racers give cash.I deal with cash all the time and it doesn't bother me but some people it does.It boils down to the person taking the money and sending it in! Also have you seen how bad the handwritting is on those forms.I don't know how Fred can read some of them.I have alot of trouble and try to correct them while the racer is there in front of me.See the person collecting the money and ask for a reciept! Raptor_MS 11-13-2005, 11:52 PM Make the entry form like most school tests...... color in the circle representing the letter under each one. That would take care of the chicken scratch. ROAR sanctioned track supplies the forms, the racers send them in with their check or money order only in "registered letter". That takes care of that...... BullFrog 11-14-2005, 07:41 AM Just for giggles- the racers are going to spend the time in a post office to register a letter. They barely will give you the time to fill the paperwork- the chicken scratches.Just have a honest person collect the money and given them a reciept. If they haven't recieved anything from ROAR in three weeks contact the person on the reciept. If they had a reciept they don't have to pay again because they have something to show they paid.If they paid and no reciept Fred will refund the money- always has for us in Florida. The catch is finding honest people to collect and send the funds to ROAR. Raptor_MS 11-14-2005, 01:17 PM The catch is finding honest people to collect and send the funds to ROAR. Is that not what we are doing today? Yet, racers are blaming ROAR for it taking to long to get the packet. When most of the time it is the tracks fault. It seems by your post that "racer's will not go out of their way" to get things done. And with that being said, you wonder why OVAL and ROAR is in the shape it is in? Mike@SteelCity 11-14-2005, 11:42 PM Raptor, The problem is... ... - Who wants the job!!! ROAR members should speak up and "vote in" someone that will try to change the way things are done. You can scream from the outside all you want, until you get inside, you'll never be heard....... How does this "Oval Commitee" work? Are they elected as well? If they are picked, who picks them? What is the life-span of their position? Kenny@RAPTOR Mike@SteelCity 11-14-2005, 11:52 PM JB, I am trying to remain neutral, and not blow smoke... but that is the honest truth. That is just it… YOU are ONE person and run such a respectful and classy operation. Hell, you slapped my hand at my own race for trying to give more time between heats... YOU WERE THERE! I learned a lot, and was so completely satisfied with the ARCOR Regional Halloween event that after the race, I was very excited for the RC future - thinking THERE IS a future in competitive racing... and most importantly, I walked away with more knowledge and of course, had fun. With ROAR... I really hate to knock that sanction, but with my 1st ROAR race last spring, I was struggling to communicate with ROAR. Last week, my 2nd ROAR race, I was so soooooo disappointed that SCH was not listed on the ROAR website as having an event.... come to think of it, I don't even think Region II was listed at all! (This was last week) LOL Maybe there is no Region II anymore? :drunk: I am all for helping anyone out... and fixing problems with making things better... ROAR needs the help and I was there for them... but - they were not there for me...?? It seems to me that they are the one blowing smoke… Mike: Thank you for the nice words...I try for a one man (women) operation. Mike@SteelCity 11-15-2005, 12:08 AM I (as well as my shop & employees) "try" to be a fast learner and lead by example. On my 2nd ROAR race (last week) I placed all responsibility in the hands of the racer. I suggested for "them" to get in touch with ROAR directly - and early enough if they wanted to race in a larger “sanctioned” event at SCH. This worked fairly well. I learned from my 1st Race, that we had to back pay ROAR due to people renewing their old membership. We had to back pay the $5 per ROAR membership for those who signed up for ROAR at our track who were already members at one point in their lives. That was not communicated to us - that we DID NOT get to keep $5 per "renewing" membership. Ha-ha We just sent ROAR a check and all was clear - whether we agreed or not... we were trying to "lead by example" to be a respectful place to host ROAR events in the future. To sum it up as a track owner - Put the responsibility in the hands of the racer. It is MUCH MUCH easier and you do not burn up resources and expenditures on managing someone else’s money. MR BullFrog 11-16-2005, 07:20 AM Now I know what you are talking about. The 5.00 rebate is for 1st time roar members I believe. did you ever get ahold of your region director? If so who else did you contact in roar? The rule book is posted on the internet and every club gets a rule book.Your beef is that a ROAR rep was not there. Again contact your region director and find out who was supposed to be the roar official.I've got that covered down here but everyone is not like Florida.Oh well have fun and nothing is perfect. And if you put the responsiblity of the racers to send in their own money to roar I here those stories all the time and 99.9% of the time are false! My next article will have region winners that lost the wins because of that. By the way he is very well known ( won 2 classes). He's still not a member as of yesterday and the race was 3 weeks ago. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
