Kaug, They are currently practicing every day with a good number of people. So far, with a couple of attempts at an AMB-scored race, those in attendance (Saturdays) have really just wanted to practice. There will be a BIG RACE with computer scoring either the end of July or first weekend of August (not sure) and that will kick-off the official racing for the track. Hope to see you there, John.

Has anything been happening at Hobbytown in Robinson lately?

Yes, actually, last Saturday my brother and I helped score and administer a race there. There were 18 entries, and the ONLY store person was Scott, the owner. It was a very fun day, and track was good to run on. For the race on the 17th, I hope to get a bunch of electric people out for it. Thanks for asking, John

Kaug, yes there will be a race on the 17th. As stated above, "I" will ONLY be attending to race this time, and help out when asked by my host.
For gearing, I'm not sure what spur you are using, but if you are around the 84T range, start with something in the mid 20's(24) with a torquey(sic) motor, and a tooth or two less for an RPMmie(sic) motor. I plan on getting a number of our friends to attend for electric, and Hobbytown will be providing power for charging, etc. from their generator onsite as before. The track has a nice technical feel (not too hard) and is 100% better now that there is a REAL DRIVERS' stand.

I just thought I would bring this thread forward for 2 reasons:
1. Hobbytown, Robinson Twp. will have a limited supply of the HOT NEW T-Maxx 3.3's in on Tuesday, Feb. 28th.
2. We need to start talking about the upcoming off-road racing season. This year looks to be BIGGER than EVER!!! Who's in?

I talked with Scott today, and plans are for starting the racing around mid-April (weather depending). Practice can be anytime. If anyone is interested in helping out with track prep, PLEASE stop in and give them your name & number/e-mail. Any or all help will be appreciated. Also, they are looking for a couple (free?) triaxle loads of good dirt to EXPAND the track. Please also let them know about this. Thanks, and see you IN THE DIRT!! John

John,

Is the track surface the same as last year? Also, is the overall track size about the same? Anything else changing?

Thanks in advance for the info! Have fun at The Finale this weekend. Tell the other "Beavers" I said "HI"!

Later!

Mucho, thanks for your interest. ;) First, the surface will NOT be the same, the size WILL be bigger, and ANOTHER load (30 yards) of topsoil was delivered the other day. So far, they have created the track design and roughed it out, the previous dirt was spread, and the new dirt will be moved on Saturday.
If anyone has the time.................SATURDAY, April 15th, will be the work day at the track to spread the NEW dirt and get the track ready for Saturday the 22nd RACE DAY!! Please, PLEEZE, come out and help this Saturday. Thanks! and see you then, John

What type of tires will we need to use with the new surface or is it to early to really say ? I wish I could make it up to help tomorrow expect don't get home from work until 5:15 pm. Living in the Waynesburg area it's a rather long haul and I think would make it up way to late to move dirt sorry.

RacewayJohn
04-14-2006, 06:15 PM
Kaug! Nice to hear from you! It is way too early to tell which tires will work. Just bring a nice selection of mini-pins, bowties, and a couple of different ribbed tires (electric); and probably bowties or something similar for the big nitro trucks. They are adding an additional lane at the back of the track with a banked 180 bringing you into the course from the sweeper. Again this year, it appears that we will be turning left...........
Thanks for the offer, but you are right- 5:30PM will be a little late. Please try to make it for NEXT Saturday's kick-off race. See you then, John

I live in Beaver Falls, PA which is about 30 miles from there. I work at the Value City right there across from Hobbytown every morning. I should try to stop in there because my job ends at 9:30 AM. I have an E-maxx, a Rustler, and a couple of Pedes. What are the requirements of racing?

RacewayJohn
04-17-2006, 08:45 AM
Hello! and thanks for asking. Basically, you need to just show up. That's a little short, but really just show up. There are always nitro classes, with a couple of E-Maxxes running too, and a couple of electric classes which usually have stadium trucks (Rustler) and buggies in them. Electric is provided, and you will need a table, chair, and maybe a shelter if you want. Sometimes, there is extra space available in one of the racer's shelters too. Racing will start by 1PM at the latest, and you can figure on spending about 3-4 hours for the event on average. There will be 2 heats/ 1 mains, and we are going to "Poll the audience" whether we use IFMAR starting method or just "heads-up" for qualifying. The mains will be "heads-up" only, but have the starting grid spread out a little to avoid the dreaded first-turn pile up. I hope this helped, and hope to see you on Saturday! John

how much to race and how much to practice?

RacewayJohn
04-23-2006, 07:22 PM
Slaz, and others who MAY have been MISINFORMED, the cost of racing this year will be $10.00 for the first vehicle, and I'm not sure about the 2nd, 3rd, etc. Practice costs are $5.00 for about 4-5 hours- I think they have an "all day" price as well. There will be a few races this summer run by, and scored by the RCARR organization, which will be $35.00 for entry, but they will PAY cash to A-main winners, and perhaps others places as well? Not sure, but I know that THOSE races will be the only ones with increased entry fees.
The FOURTH OF JULY RACE on the 2nd of July, run by Hobbytown, (may) have an extra price, but WILL HAVE many race prizes, and possibly a picnic involved in the extra costs. The kind folks at Hobbytown realize the added costs of travel for racers and their utilities over the winter, and have chosen to NOT raise the entry fee prices for this season. So, save a couple of bucks and race local, where we WILL KEEP IT FUN!! See you soon! John

Gene, overall, the turnout was light. This was caused by the COLD temps on Saturday. We did have about 22-23 racers running 1/8th Buggies, Monster Trucks (Maxxes, etc),Truggies, Nitro Stadium, and Electric Stadium. The next race (scored) will be in 2 weeks, and weather permitting, should be a good one. Everyone was having FUN, and you know how THAT spreads......... See you then? John

Todd, do you know where Ikea in Robinson Twp. is? It is right across the local street from Ikea. (412) 788-1000 is the number there. It's VERY easy to find, just follow signs for the airport from rte 79N, then go about 3-4 miles - you will exit just past the Ikea, turn right, turn right again, go up the hill to the next light (Steak-N-Shake), turn right again..........IT'S ON THE LEFT!!!!!! See you next Saturday! Gene, nice to hear from you! The "gate" opens at 9am and races start shortly after 12 Noon. Leadfoot, thanks for replying, and looking forward to seeing you & your friends too! The last time we ran on it, the lap times were (no kidding) about 32 seconds or more, so it's a BIG track design and a bit technical in a couple of spots. It is still VERY friendly for 1/8th scales, and of course friendly for RACERS too! Bring your own EZ-Up, table, chairs or whatever, and don't forget to bring a large amount of "FUN". John

Weather permitting, the 4th of July Race(Sunday July 2nd) will START by High Noon. We are going to make every effort to be done racing by 5PM.
Leadfoot, thank you for your concern about previous events, but as you saw when you were there that I have the capacity to push the race on if needed. Since the bi-weekly races are relaxed, we allow more time when others are not ready.....
Because this race will have more people at it, certain things will be discussed in the driver's meeting on Sunday morning concerning this.
