View Full Version : Custom Late model & truck
fordcowboy 06-11-2005, 03:55 PM Here's a late model vacu-form body I painted & decaled. I put body posts in it. And here's a custom truck I bought off of ebay. The car is a Tjet & the truck is an AFX.
Just thought you all would like to see these.

Look great. Never thought about mounting posts in a vac formed bod. What did you use to mount the posts? JB Weld?  rr
tjd241 06-12-2005, 12:28 AM Never used it... What is it? I have always used devcon (or similar) 2 part 5 min epoxy...what have I been missing? BTW, where did that nice truck body come from too? dave

JB Weld is a lifesaver :) It's an automotive product that's used to bond metal and do small repairs. It's a two part mix which can be bought in different setting times. I prefer the 4 minute JB Weld myself. JB Weld works great on all forms of metal, wood, and has worked on every type of plastic I've used it on so far. I've used it on diecast customs....and slot cars.
One trick I've learned is when I mount screw posts to a body I can use JB Weld....BUT I also put a couple small beads of super glue around the post and on top of the JB Weld. This seems to cause the JB Weld to get even harder

I'd bet that pickup is based on the XLerators Baja Blazer. I agree, it's VERY cool looking...
dang. I got rid of one of those Blazers years ago on eBay when I first got back into slots. The screw posts had been hacked out. If I knew then what I know now I would have made up some screw posts and done a custom like that...

Rick, are you sure that particular Blazer is based on the '67-'72 era body??? The only Blazer's I've ever seen have been the '73-'87 era body style.
Hopefully FCB can get back to this post and clue us in on more info soon...... :freak:

Well, in the immortal words of Napolean Dynamite...."SCHWEEEET"!!!
Comparing the Baja Blazer to the resin truck body......I can now see why I thought the upper part of the cab might have been leaning back a bit too much. Still, I can live with that :)
I've been looking on Ebay and still haven't found that resin truck body for sale yet. :(
fordcowboy 06-12-2005, 11:57 AM Thanks for the compliments guys.
The truck body is a Baja Blazer with the hood ground down & puttied in. The bed is puttied in. It has a Datsun cab (I believe). I'm thinking about trying to do a resin copy of it. But I bought it off of ebay.
On the Late Model - I used epoxy from WalMart to glue the posts it. I use it on all my vaccu form bodies. I just need to find some late model bodies. Any help would be appreciated - I guess I'll try clear since I can't find any white ones.

Hey man, any idea as to how soon you might resin cast that truck? That is....IF you decide to.... :)
noddaz 06-12-2005, 02:24 PM How can it be "mint" with a JL chassis under it?
