Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get a realistic crew for my Polar Lights Lost In Space Model Jupiter 2? I am starting to put one of my models together and would like to find a set of crew members for it. I thought there were some on here a while back. I would really appreciate the help!!!!!
Thanks,
Jim

A guy name Flying Frets on this board put this set out last year. You might try to do a search on the name and e-mail him.

I think I bought the last set off of him, But you may get lucky. They really add to the kit! He had a Space Pod in the works too But I don't think he ever completed it. High Regards, Mark.

If you canot locate any of those figures there is another option which is what I have done for my kit (which is still waiting to be finished). Go to Walthers.com and search their supply of scale figures S-scale figures are perfect for the lower level portion of the ship. You just have to scan through the different types till you find a set that you can paint to look right. Best ones are people in cover-all's or military type dress

how about upper deck fiqures ?

what scales for both decks would be accurate ? i see people fiqures in the hobby shops railroad section, but it's hard to tell by looking which size is right

Thats where it becomes a matter of personel choice, figures come in N / S / Ho / O / TT / and G scales. On my kit I used the 1 / 60th scale so 1 inch = 5 feet but S-scale figures may not work on the upper level because of the hight difference between the two. to keep it in perspective you may need to mix say S and Ho figures. I haven't made it to the upper deck as of yet to confront this problem yet, so I can't give you a good answer. Bert If I can find my kit in our house of destruction, were doing a major remodel at the moment I'll send you a shot of a S-scale figure in the lower level for you to look at.

Included are 2 photos from my Jupiter 2 project, the first is in the nearly compleated lower level, with 2 S-scale figures standing in the main deck area just outside the labratory. Photo 2 has the same two figures standing in the upper flight deck in the control area next to an after market flight chair. You can decide if you like the look of these figures and if the size will work for both levels. They can be found or ordered from any hobby shop that carries model railroding supplies, or at www.walthers.com look under manufacture Priser. And Bert I have not touched it in about a year, but the bug is starting to nibble at me again.

thanks robert the scale looks perfect for the lower deck hobbytown here in Carson City has a good selection of railroad people, they are just packaged where only 1 or 2 out of the entire pack will work with all the detail work you've done so far a break was needed probably. i took a year break on my j2 when i moved to Nevada, but it is almost done, just need to do the little extra add ons for the lower deck, upper deck is complete, i'll tell you what, this pl j2 with all the detail sure is a learning experience.

I recently located the master pattern for the Jupiter 2 Crew Kit. Though I am no longer actively involved in model building, I would consider a second issue of the kit (recasters not-with-standing).

However, the demand would have to be there and as with the first run of the kit, I'd need at least 35 pre-sold to make it worthwhile.

Also, if anyone knows of a reputable caster (Mike Evans did an outstanding job on the first edition, but he's expensive hence the steep price of the original kits), let me know. I'd like to keep production costs (and there-by retail) DOWN.

If enough of you want this kit re-released, only YOU can make it happen.

The Pod (with interior) was about 80-85% done when I gave up. Never completed it.

Hey Bert!

How ya been?

I've been lurking for a week or 2 just to see what's goin' on here. Between what I've seen posted and a few e-mails I've gotten, it seems there may be enough interest in the J2 Crew Kit to warrant another release.

Here's the deal...A caster will charge me a set fee to build up the molds, then another fee for each kit that's pulled from the mold. Typically, they will guarantee 50 kits from a mold, so it's not worth the time and money to do a run of less than 50 kits.

So it comes down to the molding fee + the casting fee + shipping + packaging costs divided by the number of kits + profit margin + S&H to the customer = final retail price.

I had Alchemy Works do the first run and we had a retail of $45.00 including S&H based on the above calculations(IIRC).

I haven't talked to any casters as yet, so I can't even give you a ballpark figure on cost yet, but I'd like to get it down to about 1/2 the cost of the first run if I can find a caster to do the job as well as Mike Evans did, and at the right price.

I'm not independently wealthy so I can't afford to have another run cast and end up sitting on them. I need to know if there's genuinely enough interest to make it a worthwhile endeavor...so how 'bout it guys?

I am interested for sure and i have read a few posts here in the last month about an interest in finding a crew i know Bogart used your crew for both decks and what a fantastic job he did on his Jupiter 2. Your crew really made it come to life, he sent me a lot of pictures and i will forward them to you to see what he did with your crew so frets "you got mail"

I'll buy 1 set for sure, maybe 2 or 3 if you can get the price down ( I have 3 kits to man. What do you need from us as far as confirming a potential order? PM, address, phone #???

Don

As with the original issue of the kit, when I see there's enough interest, I'd start shopping casters for quality & price. Once I get a confirmed figure for the job, I would calculate and post the retail price and start taking pre-orders. As I said, I need roughly 35 kits pre-sold before I'll commit to a second issue of the kit, so stay tuned...

If you (or anyone you know) is SERIOUSLY interested in seeing this kit again, now's the time to speak up.

Hello frets....

I ordered and sent payment for a crew way back when you were going to release the first run. You told me you'd had some sort of family crisis, so I told you just get to it when you can. A few months later, I sent you a message to ask you if you'd sent them. You told me you were still dealing with that crisis but would send the crew as soon as possible. Again I told you to just send them when you could---there was no hurry.

Now that you're thinking about reissuing them, I'm guessing your crisis has passed. Will you please send me the crew now?

Thanks,
Tony

Tony,

I'm sorry if I lost track of your order (things were indeed pretty hairy for awhile :freak: ).

Let me check my records...we'll get this squared away one way or the other...kit or refund. So far based on response, a reissue looks "iffy" at best.

Okay Gang,

Here's the latest...

Sadly, there doesn't seem to be enough sustained interest to justify the cost of another production run of the Crew kit, so that's that (for now at least).

I did go through some stuff in storage last night and found a small surplus of this kit from the original run (Tony, please e-mail me with your address).

Besides the one I owe Tony, there are exactly 2 kits left.

Anyone interested, please e-mail me.

I'd be interested in one if you meet your price goal, $45 is a little steep for me but I'd definately spring for $25.00!

Paraclete - no e-mail received.

Phrank - still need your address to ship your kit.

Still have 2 kits available. If not sold to the real fans (members of this community) by 6/15 they'll be available at the "e" place.

OK so they went back out Wednesday.

If ya DON'T hear anything by Tuesday, then start whining.

Mailed Wednesday (late)
Picked up Thursday morning.
Thursday afternoon hit regional sorting(possibly Friday morning).
Friday morning on truck to destination ZIP's.
Friday evening, truck arrives and unloaded
Sat morning, bags sorted to local ZIP's, possible arrives at local ZIP.

So by Monday you SHOULD get 'em.
Tuesday if the truck traveled for 2 days(adjust as needed).

Any other reason to ship FEDEX or UPS??

Well, I got mine without problems last year, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I have made kits and shipped both hobby stuff and computer equipment for a hardware reseller, and my fiance had to deal with registered letters to a scumbag landlord, so I have a bunch of stories of how shipper mess up. ESPECIALLY THE USPS!!! how can a postmaster fail to deliver a letter to a PO box in his same post office??? How can UPS 'mislay' a pallat of hard drives? how can fedex crush a glass display box into powder?

I orderd something from monstersinmotion and it took them 7 weeks to deliver it and I HAD THE TRACKING INFO FROM FEDEX. I knew where it was. MIM had accidently said I had a loading dock! FEDEX didn't see one and had no place to deliver it so it sat until I drove to get it.

i hear you and i understand.completely but the problem is him actually sending them out. more excuses and bull. so much bull in fact i might open a rodeo or a farm . i've never had such problems with a person to this degree. im just updating the others owed kits with the imfo im given.why he is he BANNED at this hobbytalk board?
