Have a 5 yr old MTD Yard Machine 21" push mower with 6 hp Tecumseh engine. Runs very well until I hit a hill and the left side of machine is lower than the right side-almost instant shut off. Oil level fine. After shutoff, gas begins leaking out of air filter. Sometimes will not stop until fuel tank is empty.

It sounds like the float in your carb is hanging up for some reason which is causing it to flood out the engine and then leak out all the fuel. I would pull the bowl off the carb and take a look at the float and see if it is sticking, You may want to spray it with a shot of penetrating lube where it pivots to see if that helps.

also change your oil if it smells like gas... before you go mowing
