View Full Version : "The Invaders" saucer eps? Pygar 05-27-2005, 11:59 AM How many eps of "The Invaders" showed the saucer interior, or particularly good exterior shots? Obviously, I am looking for refs for the model. Appreciate any help I can get. Dave Hussey 05-27-2005, 01:26 PM There was one episode called "The Saucer" where David Vincent gets hold of a saucer for a while. Like, why didn't he take it for a spin to Rio or something? Anyway, that episode has lots of good interior shots. Huzz Lloyd Collins 05-27-2005, 04:18 PM I can get some screen grabs of the inside. The outside is hard to find good shots. When they film the saucer, they put different colored lights on the ship, so it would look different. I got the Jackill blueprints from his booth at Wonderfest but it was kinda light on the interior... X15-A2 05-31-2005, 11:20 AM Curiously, the filming model is painted white (I know the current owner). It is always depicted as being silver but the model does not appear to have been repainted. Don't really know if it was white in the show and perhaps the bounce light from the blue sceen made appear to have a silver sheen or if it was in fact silver and later repainted. Anyone have any further info about this or other thoughts? Dave Hussey 05-31-2005, 12:23 PM And why isn't this show available on DVD? I've only seen 2 or 3 episodes ever and I'd love to have the whole series to watch! Huzz Zorro 05-31-2005, 12:34 PM ... I've never even run across it in syndication. Dave Hussey 05-31-2005, 01:45 PM It was released on VHS tape way back in the 80's. I picked up three used copies form a local video store around 1988 or '89. One of the episodes is "The Saucer". I may have to get them copied to DVD before they deteriorate. Huzz rw2516 05-31-2005, 08:38 PM Sci-Fi channel showed Invaders back in the early '90s. I was able to tape them all. Republic had distibution rights then, don't know if they still do. If they do it's up to Artisan to release them on DVD. I've been holding back on transferring them to DVD in hopes of a official release. At least this was in the days before split screens and pop up ads in corner of the screen if push comes to shove. Zorro 05-31-2005, 08:42 PM So how does the series hold up? The last time I saw it I was probably 10 years old and remember it as a semi-"Fugitive" kinda show that was cool in it's premise but which didn't exactly keep me glued to the tube week after week. Lloyd Collins 05-31-2005, 11:11 PM Here are some screen grabs of the inside. rw2516 06-01-2005, 06:52 AM So how does the series hold up? The last time I saw it I was probably 10 years old and remember it as a semi-"Fugitive" kinda show that was cool in it's premise but which didn't exactly keep me glued to the tube week after week. The show was an "adult" drama so it holds up better than shows like LIS and Time Tunnel. It was similiar to The Fugitive in the "guy who travels from town to town and becomes involved the lives of those he meet" kinda way. Early episodes had Vincent uncovering all kinds of plots the aliens were cooking up to kill off humans. One involved swarms of carniverous locusts. How Vincent always knew of the alien's plans and where they were going to carry them out I don't remember or it was not explained. Vincent became a well known UFO kook. When he would show up in a town to warn the sheriff or the newspaper about some plot the aliens were cooking up locally he was usually dismissed, "You're that looney Vincent guy". I think the aliens let Vincent live because killing him would lend credence to his story. In the second season Vincent hooked up with a group of "believers" and they would carry out missions to thwart the aliens. The group was financed by a rich guy played by Kent Smith. In one episode all but Smith get killed when they are betrayed. The alien leaderr was also introduced played by Alfred(don't know last name but you've all seen him a million times). Aliens could only hold human form a limited time and had to return to a ship or one of their bases, which was usually some kind of closed factory or power plant, etc and revert to natural form which was aquatic in nature because they had these huge tanks. In one episode I think there was a "queen" alien or something in one of the tanks. Not the greatest show ever but well worth giving a look see or a refresher if you haven't seen it in almost 40 years. Remember, don't trust anyone with a crooked little finger, they are probably an alien. Y3a 06-01-2005, 08:46 AM I thought the little finger didn't bend. It was cool back when the show was on to do that thing with our pinky's..........at least in grade school... or have a set of fake locksmith tools when "It takes a Thief" was on, or have antennas when "My favorite Martian" was on. Who got caught with your "Man from UNCLE" badge and gun at school. or Sixth Finger gun? LOL Zorro 06-01-2005, 09:51 AM Who got caught with your "Man from UNCLE" badge and gun at school. or Sixth Finger gun? LOL Never took em' to school but on summer vacation me and a couple of buddies would dress up in our "spy outfits", strap ourselves with our various "spy toys" - I had the 007 Attache Case and my buddies variously had some of that Mattel stuff - (the camera and radio that turned into guns), and some knock-off weapons from a toy line called "Guns of The Golden Agent". We'd get on the bus in our bucolic suburban neighborhood and ride 20 minutes "downtown" in order to have the proper gritty urban environment for our "spy wars". I'm sure the various merchants got a big kick out of a bunch of nine year-olds ducking in and out of their storefronts in the 90 degree southern heat while wearing sunglasses and London Fogs and speaking into toy wrist-radios. Don't know if they could tell which of us were T.H.R.U.S.H agents though. PhilipMarlowe 06-01-2005, 10:03 AM I can remember one of my coolest Christmas presents was the official Man from U.N.C.L.E "spy camera" that transformed into a cap pistol. The nun from Blessed Sacrament who promptly confiscated it probably sold it on Ebay for a small fortune! I'm like you Zorro, the only thing I can remember from The Invaders is that pulsing lighted saucer, and the way the aliens bodies "burned up" when they died. Y3's pinkie reference sounds vaguely familiar though.. That is a Mattel Agent Zero-M Snapshot pistol, I had one back in the 60's. They show up quite often on ebay. The Zero-M radio that converted into a rifle was used in an old 60's sf movie as a laser! David. Pygar 06-02-2005, 11:00 PM Thanks for the snaps! They'll be a big help! Lloyd Collins 06-03-2005, 01:07 AM Glad to help! Dennis Bailey 06-03-2005, 09:19 PM The show was produced by Quinn Martin, who also produced "The Fugitive" and "Run For Your Life" -- all shows built around the similar premise of a single male star who is driven to move from place to place each week becoming briefly involved in the lives and troubles of the locals. Anyone have any further info about this or other thoughts? Hi. Regarding your post of 05-31-2005 about the original "Invaders" saucer, could you take photos of the original TV show prop you mentioned and post them here? I would like to compare the original with the Aurora model and the screen grabs I have. To me it seems that the outer walls of the control cabin section of the saucer are tapered, and maybe curved a little. Patron Zero 04-05-2011, 12:13 AM Is this of any assistance ? http://www.jackill.com/Pages/INV-1_Sample_Page.htm Richard Baker 04-05-2011, 05:07 PM I don't remember if it was brought up in the series, but the classic Invader's UFO seems too small for interstellar travel. For a mission lander it is great, but there should be a mothership or carrier out there which brought them to our solar system. Seaview 04-05-2011, 06:06 PM According to the paperback novels based on the series, there was a mothership and the small saucers were "pods". Incidentally, Patron Zero, thanks for that link: I only wish those drawings were available in 18" x 22". :hat: Richard Baker 04-05-2011, 09:17 PM According to the paperback novels based on the series, there was a mothership and the small saucers were "pods". It would be an intersting design project- that and other 'Pods'. IIRC the only other alien pod seen was the unmanned (unaliened?) one being used to create a massive storm. I have not seen it since the show first aired, but I think it was some sort of spinning top looking thing in the center of the storm and a small replica was on a plotting table so it could be controlled. . vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
