View Full Version : Harry's Hobbies Jax FL offroad
travymoto1 05-26-2005, 10:01 AM The track is being built right now and should be done in about a week. Races will begin in a week or two. The track is aprox 100x85 and looks like a fun layout. Tires will prob be pins, studs, step pins, bowties etc. Post question or comments on here and I will try to answer them. I'm not an official spokeman( just a local) , but I will try to get Harry on here as well.
The location is 5050-5 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville FL
#phone number is (904) 288-6929.

Just when you thought everything was good ........bam
travymoto1 05-26-2005, 01:30 PM sorry Chris...I'm not a moderator so I can't block the ROAR police from posting...LOL
But yes we made some jumps last night and work is in progress as I type. The plan is to get the jumps done by Friday night and then seal it. You will be able run nitro (there is a built in elavated pit lane/wall)and I expect there will be a good amount of nitro cars/buggies. Bobby Phillips was nice enough to come over last night and help with the jump placement after Harry decided on the layout. It should be an electric and nitro friendly track. I will posts some pics in a day or two.
Chris Garland 05-26-2005, 01:41 PM Listen to donald....lol
Poppa Ray 05-26-2005, 02:42 PM Just as long as there is at least one jump like the big one that used to be at stricklands. You know where you had to come off the corner perfect and be on the throttle asap and all the way up the face or you'd be short and not make the downside!
BullFrog 05-26-2005, 02:49 PM Bam..........................................
New92 05-26-2005, 02:55 PM Man, glad I am buying the new ESC today, now I have one for the buggy!

Ray, there are some nice features so far but it's missing a big jump.
David Butts 05-26-2005, 04:22 PM I bet I have the oldest hardly used one off offroad car in Jax. It's an Associated worlds car in graphite from 1990. The one with the upper chassis brace and the narrow front bulkhead. Now wheres my old 1200's? Nah you guys can have the offroad. I hear Harry is thinking about a dirt oval too. Hmmmm? Now we're talking fun.

BullFrog 05-27-2005, 08:24 AM I've got a JRX-T sitting in the garage next to a 6 cell 1200sc pack. Also got that parts washer that runs off a battery pack- it still worked a few years ago .

Corally doesn't make dirt tires for the RDX?
travymoto1 06-01-2005, 01:39 PM the track is built...just waiting on electric and a few more things. For more info...the number to the shop is 288-6929
Poppa Ray 06-01-2005, 04:31 PM When is the first race?
travymoto1 06-02-2005, 11:51 AM ??? good question. Maybe next weekend? Call the shop and ask. The drivers stand needs a deck + railings and the electric needs to get finished. I will drop by there today or tommorow and check progress.
travymoto1 06-08-2005, 10:16 AM Harry will be allowing some practice on the track starting this Saturday 4/11/05, however the electric is not in yet. The electric is expected to be installed in the next week or so. Harry is working hard to get everthing completed and installed so that he can start the racing in a few weeks. keep up the good work Harry
Fl Flash 06-10-2005, 10:20 PM Hmm, maybe if mother nature cooperates tommorrow I can get out there and check this track out, might even bring out the B2 and my new T4! Any idea how many offroad racers will be utilizing this track? and what classes the most interest seem to be in? ( electric for me )

Poppa Ray 06-18-2005, 04:22 PM We need some power Mr. Scott! No 120v+no genny=no can solder batteries! Any update on when the 120v will be installed and available?
David Butts 06-19-2005, 10:14 AM Wow! It's been a long time since I've seen a shop/track owner with the apparent enthusiasm that Harry has. I stopped by the place on friday afternoon to find not only someone out in the heat working on the track but Harry himself.
Guys, This place is the real deal. They aren't just planning a track, They have one and it's a nice one at that. Offroad has never been one of my interests but racing is and if there is gonna be racing at an offroad track in Jax, Well I may just have to get an offroad car to race with. (dare I say a B-utts 4 ?)
There are some deep rooted track/shop loyalties in this town and probably always will be but for those willing to try something different check this place out.
Oval? Hmmm, There already has been mention of of dirt oval making a comeback and the crew at Harry's is aware of this, One or two pipe changes and a tri-oval shaped track is there. Uh oh! Come on Custom Works cars, Zoom zoom!
Oh yeah, I spent money while I was there.

If you're looking just to goof around witht the offroad I've got a FTT3 with two days racing on it. I need to put the money together for a XXXT MF2.

Waiting for the city to come and do the last inspection. Once this is done should have power up and going in no time. I will post it when the power is complete and ready for use. :)

BullFrog 08-01-2005, 10:14 AM George- Complements to you on the excellent job you are doing at Harry's.Also goes out to your sign up partner Tom. Remember MiniZ racing this Thursday night I believe. It's been awhile since I've enjoyed racing in my home town.Keep it up.
New92 08-01-2005, 11:49 AM What kind of turnout has been there? What classes are they running too....I have a 1/10th 2wd buggy. stock, mod? What about trucks? I was thinking about picking one up this fall if the numbers are there.

Thanks for the compliments,Bill! I really haven't done any different @ Harry's than I do @ Hobby World-as far as announcing goes. Just that I don't race dirt. It's always best to have some help when running races-one person can't do it alone! Tom has been a really big help, especially during the Nitro races. Getting those guys a fair amount of time to warm-up,giving extra time for those that have problems getting their engines started & getting all those started fairly quickly so they don't flame-out is the key.
I'd like to suggest that this Sat,have the Nitro guys bring their starting stuff (starter boxes, glow plug igniters, carb screwdrivers, fuel bottles, etc) and line them up on the pit-road wall whenever they come up to race. IMO,this way, they won't have to run all the way back to their pits to restart, refuel or fix their cars & keep the rest of the field waiting. And all of their stuff wil be safe-it'll be all in front of them!
Eugene- The classes so far are: 1/18 truck,1/10 2WD electric truck/Buggy,Monster Truck (Gas,so far),1/10 Nitro Truck/Buggy,1/8 Buggy. Dust-off that 2WD buggy, stick a stock motor in it & come on out Saturday! The turnout is getting bigger each day.

The buggys that were run weekend before last were mod's but we ran buggy's and trucks together and I got by okay with a good stock motor in my truck.
