Not a bad finale, but I was little disapointed in the ending. Kind of reminded me of Contact, though instead of "I watched it for 2 1/2 hours and the alien is Jodie Foster's Father?!" it was more like "I watched every episode of the season and the pay-off is a puff of black smoke and three grubby guys in a boat?!" Maybe there'll be concrete answers in Season 2.

I found it to pretty much a yawn fest, but that's lost. Look! A mystery! Look! Another mystery! Oh! Here's an answer, but......Surprise! The answer is actually another mystery! So far, all fluff and no substance.

The ending of "Alias", however made me jump out of my seat. This one I can't wait to see the outcome.

As much as I enjoy "Lost", I've been burned by "what's the secret?" type shows before, "Twin Peaks" and "X-Files" being at the top of the list.

With "Lost", I feel the only way they can keep me watching well into the second season is if they definitively explain what the island is and their explanation is so cool that it will keep my interest for several more years. But on the other hand, if they just continue with this tease, tiny detail, tease, tiny detail, repeat ad nauseum motif, then I'll be gone soon.

Last night was a great example. They should've given us some serious info, something that we could chew on all summer long....

....but no, instead we get yet more "box within box" stuff. That pull back shot of Locke and Jack peering down the shaft was symptomatic of the whole problem. We spent practically the whole year waiting to find out what's down there all we get is yet another tease!?

Secrets are only fun if you're sure you're going to get told what they are.

Still, I sure do love that Kate.

The boat actually really bugged me. When that radar blip started moving toward the guys on the raft, I was really expecting something cool. A UFO would have been my first guess, the islands "security system" would have been my second, or even a futuristic or alien looking watercraft. But for it to be a non-descript boat with a bunch of scruffy guys......a little more info would have been nice.

The hatch was kind of a let down too.

The men on the boat had been ID'ed as "Others".

The island security system is what brought down the plane and placed it on the island.

Wesly Crusher and his naonites are considered what the "smokey" creature is.

There are a couple of ABC supported websites that have further "Secret" info about the island and the creature;

http://www.oceanic-air.com/ has hidden images and letters. clicking on the seating chart with the numbers from the show will give a 2nd season preview video clip.
http://www.driveshaftband.com/index.html
http://www.pibburns.com/cryptost/mapingua.htm what the creature is based on.

The ending of "Alias", however made me jump out of my seat. This one I can't wait to see the outcome.Yeah, my girlfriend and I watch both Alias and Lost together (over the phone). Near the end of the Alias finale, she was telling me she supposed we weren't going to get a cliffhanger this season. I replied that the show wasn't over yet, and she said, "Well, there are only four minutes left. They don't really have time to do much else."

When Vaughn says what he does in that last scene, it draws you in deeper. You lean in to hear what he's going to say next -- and then you jump straight up to heaven when that last event happens ... or at least Dale did. She kept telling me, "It's not funny!"

That ending struck me as being the narrative equivalent of those web sites that trick you into peering intently at some image for a minute -- and then something horrific jumps out and makes you wet your pants!

Spoiler? It's in the newspaper!

I don't watch it but have a question. That fat guy has been there for some time, and yet how come he isn't losing any weight?

That fat guy has been there for some time, and yet how come he isn't losing any weight?Well, they've not had much trouble finding enough to eat -- although that very question has been asked of the character (Hugo Reyes, or "Hurley") more than once, including in the season finale.

The Fugitive.
Daniel Roebuck asked Tommy Lee Jones if he thought it was "hinky" that Kimball came back to Chicago - wouldn't a guilty man run as far away as possible...?
Dan also blowed up in the Lost finale.... and he's a friend of mine and monster kit and toy collector. Biiiiig Creature from the Black Lagoon fan.

I was sorry (and surprised) to see Daniel Roebuck blowed up in the finale. A friend and I met him at a low rent Star Wars convention in Scottsdale around 1996 and he was very cool and down to earth. He'd just come off playing Jay Leno in The Late Shift and he agreed to call a friend of ours in Chicago and leave a message as Jay Leno, reenacting one of the goofier lines from the TV movie.

Given all that, you might have the access to confirm or refute this -- but rumor has it we've not seen the last of Arnst.

Dale also jumped pretty good at that explosion ...

Heiki - thanks for the links. I'm enjoying exploring them. I found the script page and message from Robert West - I'm just not sure how I found them!
