DynoMoHum 05-23-2005, 08:53 AM What are you running now, and what have you tried to do with it? The Monster and the EPIC ROAR legal stock motors are pretty much the best right now I think, apparently the EPIC is maybe slightly better then the Monster, but then I haven't run stock in a long time. dave w 1 05-23-2005, 09:14 AM the monster hasless rpm not much but has more torque what class are you running? for 4 cell oval i run a monster with putnam 180 s lots of power and it stays there if i can help let me know? mcRacing 05-23-2005, 10:21 AM in 4 cell stock i run the epic with RIP F and red springs erock1331 05-23-2005, 12:12 PM Whats good for oval? I was getting worked at the end of the straightaway!!! Do I send the motors out to someone? Or What? Lately I have been getting my best runs with the EPIC Roar stock no matter the track. F brushes large hole with Red springs. At the ROAR reg 2 race , 162' flat track this weekend. Bobby Scherff TQ'd with 50 4:01 with a Monster I was 2nd qualifier with a 50 4:02 with an Epic Roar. Bill Osborn won the main and new track record 51 4:04 with a Monster. So They both work, just find which brush/spring combo works for you. I like F brushes with a hole or 769's with either Green springs (monster) or Red springs (Epic Roar). Hope that helps Eric H. RIP/ProtoForm/PRS/Finishline bsracing8 05-23-2005, 05:25 PM Eric great Job. cb30 05-23-2005, 06:29 PM Where did you finish in the main Eric? erock1331 05-23-2005, 06:54 PM Where did you finish in the main Eric? Chris, Didn't run the main....I went out and put my car down on the line and the motor wouldn't turn over. If I gave the rears a push it would run, but once I would set it on the line again, nothing happened....It hung a brush and I didnt think would work unless I completely rebuilt it so I pulled it. Oh well, bad luck I guess. What's weird is it broke in and dyno'd well.....but that happens from time to time. Bummer cause I got my car pretty good on Sunday and thought I had something for em. I still had a ton of fun tho and that was all that mattered to me !!! JeffPatch29 05-23-2005, 08:18 PM Eric, it would have been interesting to see how things would have worked out in the main. You, Bobby, Bill, and Adam would have all had a steller race. Sucks you hung a brush like that, I did in the third qualifier, and didn't even finish the race, motor was flat and kept glitching, so maybe it's best you didn't try and get it working. Personally I like the epic's better, but it is all personal preference. monsters are deffinately more forgiving at first. Milky 05-23-2005, 09:04 PM I have a trinity revenge of the monster. I think my problem could be learning how to care for the batteries and Chassis set up. What happen was the car was bouncing a little of the corners from being too stiff possibly but I was still pulling the guy coming off but at the end of the straight he had this boost of power. Am I supposed to spray the motor after every race, comm drops and such? Plus Im not really sure how to gear the car correctly. I won all my heats then in the main I got smoked. It was only my second race and it was in a rookie class. Andy Thanks alot for the help. P.S. How long before I should send the motor out to get worked on? Who should I send it to? Milky 05-23-2005, 09:33 PM Also spring/brush combo? Oh man too much.lol Another question is where do I get that little fiber type washer? I broke it taking my motor apart. DynoMoHum 05-24-2005, 08:35 AM You don't ask for much do you? :) Only the secret to the world! The answer is '42'. Honestly, I would concentrate on your chassis first. Chassis problems can make things look like your getting beat by power, when that's probably not that much of a issue. If you can't get though the corners fast, then you'll never keep up with the fast guys. Your car will require alot more power then their cars because your comming off the corners so much slower, etc... You'll never find that kind of power from any motor tuninng tips any of us could give. It's also impossible to give gearing tips to somone who's chassis is not right. Even with a good chassis setup it's difficult at best to give gearing tips. Others may know of a source, but the only way I ever got any fiber washers were from a differnt motor that I had laying around. Comm drops, you'll get a ton of differnt answers... I'd start with Zubak's Speed Juice... but in all honesty, there are probably ohters that work well, and you can probably even win without them if all is well with chassis and motor. I've known fast guys who don't clean their motor all night long... others who do complete rebuilds between rounds... to some degree it goes back to the chassis thing, and the fact that the motor is at best 10% of the total picture in going really fast. pmsimkins 05-24-2005, 01:19 PM Milky, Don't send your motor out to be worked on. People at your track will have comm lathes and I'm willing to bet someone will be more than happy to show you how to use one and allow you to borrow theirs. Someone will also have a fiber washer they can give you. In general ask the experienced guys at your track for help. You'll get lots of hands on help and make some more friends. pat Milky 05-24-2005, 06:34 PM Ok guys thanks alot. Yea Ive made some freinds at the tracks Ive been too, and they are more than willing to help. These are just questions that are on my mind in between races because I get all worked up between races. Also I like alot of info from different sources so I can draw my own conclusion. And at the track I just dont like asking or bothering people too much cause Im shy. ;) Todd Putnam 05-25-2005, 03:14 PM Milky: Give me a call at the shop during business hours and I can walk you thru what you need to do to eliminate the horsepower variable. Milky 05-31-2005, 11:21 PM What about these holes? Drill them yourself, If so What size? or any other tricks. erock1331 06-01-2005, 08:13 AM What about these holes? Drill them yourself, If so What size? or any other tricks. I use the Putnam Jig, .078 Large Hole about halfway in. If heat is a problem after you drill the large hole halfway in, take the jig and drill a small vent hole all the way through the brush. Todd Putnam 06-01-2005, 11:04 AM Milky: Only time Smoke ever complained was once when he had too much HP...heh heh. Like I said, give me a call and I'll talk you thru it.
