are the valve guides replacable in a 3 hp. briggs?? if so, whats involved and
what is a ballpark on the guides?? still smokin in tampa.. :confused:

Sure they are......available only from B&S and they run about 2.00 each. You need three tools to install the guides. A reamer, a driver and a finish reamer. I don't know what these tools cost these days but it could hardly be worth owning them for one engine. It does take a little while to catch on to the feel of this and you would probably goof up a few guides the first few times through. I also doubt the guides are giving you the smoke you refer to if thats what you mean. Loose guides play hell with the engine (backfire, missing etc.) way before they let enough oil by to cause smoking.

usually the guides would last the engine's life. if its a old one, has alot of use and years on it. i wouldn't think guides, i'd think worn bore and rings first. then worn out breather if white smoke. black smoke pertains to being too rich.
