dip the motor (while runnuing) into a glass of water.......dry out motor and oil bushings. on a phantom I get a 57 @21000 rpms........Dave Dries has a motor that pulls a 61, I forgot the rpm that it spun up to. :hat:

I totaly agree that water diping the motor as it runs is the best way. Keep in mind that it will pull a significant amount of current even at realtively low voltage when you put it in water, so your power supply must be able to handle say 20 amps at 4.8 volts or so... but then a good RC pack can do this no problem... I wouldn't run it at any higher then 5 volts however, and idealy probably more like 2 or 3 volts. The old Tekin 'dyno' is a good device to power motors during a water dip, it has variable voltage and will handle the current reasonably well.

The water should keep things cool, so I'd go as high as you can without making a mess, or over loading your power supply... The more voltage the more RPM, the more RPM, the faster your brushes get broken in... As long as your water stays cool and continues to cool the brushes, etc... you should be fine to go what ever voltage you like, within reason.

How long should you let the motor run in the water

till the brushes are fully seated! :) hard to tell exactly how long that will take, depends on the comm size, how well the hoods are aligned, etc...

Oh, another tip for those who are really dedicated... put a differnt arm in the motor, one with a commutator that is exactly the same size as the one you'll race with... break in the brushes with one arm, use the other to race with...

That is a good tip Dyno

CooL.....thanks for the tips. We run a Sportsman Class here, Stock Motors, Trinity Spec brushes....and we're always fightin for power outta them! I will defenitley try the water break in!
