Hi I thought I'd give you guys a try to see if you can tell me why this X-Traction car doesn't work. It's a brand new X Taction Fast and the Furious Supra. It's used on a Tomy AFX track. The shoes all seem to line up. I've never seen a motor like it in a slot car it's like a rotary motor with three wound coils. Anyone else had any problems with these cars or am I just doing something stupid.. Thanks..

Hi Bmax!
Ok, what you have (and so does most EVERYONE else on HT) is a pancake motored reproduction of an AFX car. Because of poor to ok quality control, you may well have a bad armature. (little deely with the copper wire wound around it.) But before you assume it is that, does the rear axle turn freely? remove the body and watch everything turn. you should feel a slight resistance as the poles move past the magnets. If everything moves freely, remove the chassis clip and carefully lift the top-plate with Armature attached from the chassis. you will see the 2 magnets, forward and aft (don't mix these up or the car will run backward) and down in the bottom, you should find the brushes (little black/grey deelys) supported by springs. These springs and brushes should sit nice and square in the holes that they are meant to sit in. You may have a brush tipped on its side. If everything looks/moves ok and you are certain you have power to the track, you can bet that the Arm is bad. Put it all back together and go exchange it.
I have more than 40 of these cars (reproductions) and while not all of them are great,(some are) I have never found a dead one. I know some of the guys here on HT have found bad ones though.
It must be rather frustrating to set a new car on the track just to see it make like a Diecast.
Good luck...Oh! Welcome to HT! (log in for Wed night slotcar chat!)

Very good advice...
And here is an exploded view of the wee little beasty...
8604 and 8605 are the brushes and brush springs that might be jamming up the works...
Good luck...

Thanks joez870 and Noddaz fantastic help. I took the car apart and the motor off, all I can guess is that one of the brushes was in the wrong position (on it's side) because when I rebuilt the car and tried it this morning, Zip......... off she went, so once again thanks for your help..!!, now what else can I buy, it's all for my little boy honest. ;)

BlackMax,
You should list where you are from.(I think everyone should) Maybe some other racers/collectors live in your area, too.
