Oy vey!

I had sort of hoped I was wrong w/my initial thoughts on this. A part of me was hoping perhaps it was Brendan Frasier instead of "Frasier"'s Kelsey Grammer. The only way I see that working is if Beast is all CGI and Grammer was doing a voice-over!

IMDb Entry for X-Men 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376994/) It's interesting to note that Vinnie Jones (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005068/) ("Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels", "Snatch", "Gone In 60 Seconds") is credited as being in the movie, but no info is given on which character he's to play. Any guesses as to who? I'm thinking either Colossus or maybe Mr. Sinister. Yeah, I'm reaching on that last one....

Fanboys say Juggernaut.

Hmmm....

Yeah, I can see him as Cain Marko. He's not as massive, so would likely need a suit, but he can certainly pull off the attitude, IMNSHO.

Answer me this question...didn't Jean Grey played by Famke Janssen die in the last movie? How can she be in this one?

I'm sure the big fans will correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've been told, Jean Grey comes back as Phoenix (and you could see a glowing bird shape in the water at the end of X2).

I like Kelsey Grammar in everything he's been in. I think he'll be an excellent whatchamacallit, blue fur or no.

Surely he'll be CGI.

Considering that Beast, underneath all that fur and blue is an intellectual and Kelsey Grammar is an actor who has played an intellectual for so long and somewhat of a thespian I think he can pull it off.....As long as he doesnt fall off the stage!!!! ha ha ha....anyone see that clip on the news? Gawd I laughed for about a half an hour after that

I don't think Beast will be CGI except for the action scenes. Grammar is actually a great choice for the part... He is a great actor, has alot of background playing a well schooled doctor, he has awesome dry humor and great comedic timing, his face has that "Beast" shape and his voice is PERFECT. So what if he is not musclebound, they will either give him a vigorous workout schedule or he will have a well defined muscle/fur suit. If you watch Harry and the Hendersons you can see a fur suit that isn't like Chewbacca. You can see the skin and muscle tone under the fur and I'm sure that's how the Beast suit will be. They might even put him in clothes. Look at the wonders that were done on Ron Perlman in Hellboy... His muscle suit looked real and he is old and he did great. He actually would have been a good Beast as well... Some people would be happy with a Vin Diesel as Beast but he sucks and that's what I love about Marvel movies. They don't go just for the money actor, they find an actor for the role... We'll see.

Anyone who's read X-Men since the Cockrum days is laughing at you. ;)

Jean's death was a seminal moment in classic X-Men (and the following saga is what got me hooked on comic collecting in the 70s). She was possessed by a cosmic spirit, The Phoenix. At first benevolent and amazingly powerful, Jean's personality was eventually warped by the immense, almost unlimited power she was host to. At her worst, least controlled moment, she absorbed the power of a star, causing it to nova and kill billions of people on its inhabited planet.

I am SO hoping they do the Phoenix Saga justice in the next film.

The complex science of the Phoenix story is probably why they are bringing in the Beast character, to explain it scientifically... Prof X could do it but we want to hear another really smart mutant talk...John the series has been respectful so far, I'm sure that will not change.

GEEK ALERT! GEEK ALERT!

Actually, Jean wasn't possessed by the cosmic entity The Phoenix, she was replaced by the spirit of the Phoenix. Jean's body was cocooned and left in the bottom of the area just off from LaGuardia airport, IIRC. She "resurfaced" in an issue of "Fantastic Four" which then kicked off the first 100 or so issues of "X-Factor", wherein the original X-Men - Cyclops, Jean, Angel, Beast and Iceman - all formed a "mutant hunter" organization in order to help keep Xavier's dream alive (Xavier and the other X-Men of the time - Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, Colosus, Gambit, etc... - were thought to be dead).

I won't go on from there, tho, to keep a great many foreheads safe from smashing in to keyboards and eyes from glazing over.....

I went to my "phone a friend" and got the background on this.

Sorry, I didn't mean to de-rail the thread.

So Frasier is playing the Beast? I guess I'll have to use another lifeline and get more info on him.

I should have read more comics as a kid growing up!

The Beast is the blue furry fella that has been a member of the x-men, the defenders, and the avengers.

Jeff - you're right, I'd forgotten that little epilog to the Phoenix Saga. I think I'm blocking it out because it was too B&B-like. It meant that all that drama and emotion that Claremont put into those utterly amazing years of comics writing was for nothing, because it wasn't really Jeannie.

Griffworks

Yeah. That mentality is why I stopped collecting comics. When you can have Magneto "die" half a dozen times in ten years and keep coming back, you lose something. I would, however, argue that the Phoenix Saga was just as powerful 'cause Scott and company - even Xavier! - didn't know it wasn't Jean that died on the moon. And you still get a lot of emotion when Scott reunites with Jean a couple years later - after having married a chick who just so happened to look a lot like Jeannie and having had a kid with her. "Goblin Queen", anybody...?

Between the whole "you can't really kill off a character like that!" mentality that took over at Marvel and the whole abandoned threads thing, I was really turned off. I'm still left wondering if more than half a dozen different story angles were ever realized during any of the X-Titles I used to read. Sux when they introduce an interesting character for two issues, then never revisit them. Or maybe they go to a really kewel "lab complex" and we never get any additional information on why the lab existed in the first place. Just in-frikkin'-sane how quickly they would leave story elements dangling in the wind.... And then there were all the Mega-Crossovers that Marvel started doing to make you buy titles you weren't really interested in. :(

So, I no longer buy comics. They got way too commercialized in the late '90's.

Not to mention EXPENSIVE! Last comic I bought was in 98...I only buy Marvel Essentials now. I love the early stuff!

His muscle suit looked real...Both suits/costumes you've used in your example were designed, and their construction supervised, by Rick Baker--the best make-up artist working today. So, yes, if they get someone of that calibur to create the Beast costume, it could work.
