View Full Version : e-maxx or RC18T or Stampede?
petn7 05-17-2005, 10:04 PM ok, so i'm comparing apples to oranges here, but which do you guys think is more fun? right now i'm deciding between the 2. I like the E-maxx since i'm a traxxas fan and because it looks to be the most fun to drive around my backyard. i like the RC18T because it's ALOT cheaper (no need for high priced DUAL battery packs) and is a nice cute size. however, i saw a few videos online of the RC18T with some high-end hop ups and it honestly looked like the RC18T wasn't much fun to drive; it was so small, just a marbled sized pebble flipped it (granted, it was going 35+ mph). so basically which do you guys notice as more "fun?" for example, which do you guys see being sold or gotten rid of more often? if you have both models, which do you drive the most often? i'm not into hopping up either truck (at least in the near future) so hop-up potential is a non factor in my deciding b/w the 2 trucks.
What about a Traxxas Stampede vs E-maxx? anyone have both and want to comment?
BDKesling 05-18-2005, 09:18 AM I'm not sure how big your backyard is, but unless you've got a whole bunch of dirt mounds and room, the emaxx will probably get boring in a hurry. I have more fun driving a truck that will flip easily than a truck that goes anywhere I point it. If you have a buddy with either truck, get one that matches him. You'll have more fun racing two midnight pumpkins than an 18t and an emaxx, in my opinion.

ChrisHarris 05-18-2005, 02:51 PM I'm a Pede fan myself but all three have great virtues. If your yard is grass or rough then stay away from the 18! for that matter, if it is tall grass, then even the pede will be frustrating.
I haven't known a lot of people with any of these that hasn't gotten the hop-up bug and any of these will run into uge money if you let that get the better of you!
Of all the trucks I have (stadium trucks, pedes, clods and a sedan), the Pede is the one I will take out just for bashing fun. It takes a beating (in it's hopped up form which is quite a bit stronger than stock). It just seems more versatile. And I get twice the runs as I would with a Maxx.
spyhunter50 05-18-2005, 04:04 PM i had both ... and i would rather have the maxx .....
tommckay 05-18-2005, 04:49 PM I have both the E-maxx and the Stampede, and used to have a Mini-T.
The maxx is fun to drive & I would recomment it except for the need for Dual batteries and extra maintenance of the drivetrain.
The Pede on the other hand it what I take out and bash with most often. single battery that I can run for 15-20 minutes & low maintenance is great. with the proper tires (not the stock ones), it will go alot of places the maxx will just as easily.
The 18T is the same size as the Mini-T, and you are right, unless you're running on a smooth surface it is a handfull to control.
petn7 05-18-2005, 05:41 PM thanks for all the input guys. i've pretty much thrown out the possiblity of 1/18 scale off road which to me is pointless. so now it's between the stampede and e-maxx. if i get the stampede, it will only end up being marginally cheaper since i'll get the super sport Novak BL system for it. i want an off road truck that has as little maintenance as possible, but has plenty of fun. somehow i think the stampede might be this truck, but then again DUAL motors, DUAL shocks per wheel, and a DUAL speed transmission with the e-maxx...i dunno, a tough choice i'll have to make :)
i know that the Novak super sport BL motor system gives insane speed, but what about the super stock system? i mainly want brushless for it's zero maintenance and longer run times, but does the super stock also give more torque and speed in the stampede? or, if i put in a novak super stock BL system into a stampede, would it be equivalent of a 17 turn modified motor? if not, what's its modified motor equivalent?
spyhunter50 05-18-2005, 09:21 PM i know that you would be a lot happyer with the e-maxx.. sence it has 2 speed.. 8 oil shocks ... evx esc.. a lot of hop-ups so you local hobbies shope should have then in stock... and ball bearings... dual motors,,, cheaper is not alwat the best...
tommckay 05-19-2005, 08:32 AM I think the Super Stock would give the equivelent to a 19 turn or so, possibly a 17. It would be a good choice for a pede in my opinion.
Personally, I don't see the need for insane speeds in the Pede. I would think the the Super Stock would be fine, if not more than enough. Having a fast truck is one thing, but there is such a thing as too much, especially in a basher truck. When bashing the only time you use speed is getting a run at a jump or racing a buddy up the street & back, the rest of the time the speed will just make the truck hard to handle over the rough stuff.
What spyhunter says is true, but for the $$ difference between the 2 you can get bearings & the RPM carriers for the Pede with a new set of tires & rims and still be money ahead.
petn7 05-19-2005, 05:20 PM if i use a novak super stock BL motor, what batteries would give me at least 10min of run time? like i'm sure i could buy a pair of $50 3000mah NIMH e-maxx batteries from tower, but on the e-maxx, b/c of it's current draw, the batteries are ruined in less than 10 runs. however, on the stampede, could those batteries hold up for some decent run times and charge cycles?
tommckay 05-20-2005, 08:55 AM Your run time will vary based on conditions and gearing, but if you get a decent matched 3300 pack you could easily get 10 minutes. I get that with my pede and I have a 19 turn in it.
If your buying batteries that are junk after 10 runs in a Maxx you need to consider different cells or change your battery care methods. I have a set of Integy matched Stick packs with at least 30 runs in my E-maxx racing & Bashing & they are still good packs that I use to race with.
patcollins 05-20-2005, 09:13 AM With a stampede and a superstock system a 1500 will give you close to ten minutes of run time. I get 10 minutes of runtime with 1500's and an old Paradox stock motor in my pede.
I have all three trucks you mentioned and the stampede is my bash truck, its darn near unbreakable, handles real well and is just plain fun.
The 18t is my favorite of the three for racing.
spyhunter50 05-20-2005, 11:17 AM i just got my trinity spyder 1/18 ... i like a lot i ran it 1 time... and cant wait to run it again...
ChrisHarris 05-20-2005, 02:11 PM I run the 5800 in my Pede and it is great. Enough speed to smoke an e-maxx and yet decentg run times. 10+ minutes out of a 3300 pack, no problem. If it was more power than you wanted, you can tune it down with one of it's programs so it is more like a stock motor( as in the 4500?) I would go the extra coin and get the 5800.
petn7 05-21-2005, 10:19 PM i went to my local hobby town and found out they support the e-maxx alot more since it's more cost effective to have spare e-maxx parts than stampede parts. i guess i'll be getting the e-maxx, yay!
