View Full Version : Lansing, MI Paved Oval Racing 2005
MKingsley 05-17-2005, 07:22 PM First afternoon at the Funtime track was pretty good. The sun finally came out and the track got some heat. Dave Zipp, Jaime Hanson and myself were it today but we got some good runs. The 5800 brushless is way different than the 19 turns we ran last year. The corner speed is awesome - it took a little getting used to the lack drag brake entering the corners. It felt like the car was way too fast into the turn but a change in driving style and line really helped. The car would coast forever. It was definitely a bigger change than on the carpet. Please see the ROAR region 5 race thread for more info on this track and directions. Mike
oldguy 05-18-2005, 10:05 AM Mike, Dave, and Jamie each had a very good time running at this track yesterday, and I had a good time just watching each of them go fast and "play". Each of their cars got hooked up pretty quickly through the afternoon, and as Mike said, the track is FAST. I don't think any of them minded that. This track will be the site of the ROAR Region 5 race on June 10--12th. The track is just a couple of minutes off Interstate 69, just west of Lansing on hwy #43. Registration forms are out and preregistration is requested by May 31. Mike and Dave have a full practice day scheduled for May 28th. If you can make the trip that day or even better yet that day and for the Regionals, I am sure you will enjoy the experience. I know the guys are looking forward to and hoping for a good turnout. Yesterday I watched quarter scale, fifth scale, and tenth scale cars all run well on this track (at different times). Everybody was quick and had a good day. If you come, you too can enjoy a good day(s) of outdoor oval of racing . Hope to see you all at the track over the next few weeks.
Roadsplat 05-18-2005, 04:20 PM Wish I could make it but previous commits prohibit me. I have this brandnew Maverick sitting here and I can't even go race it. :( Good luck guys. Have fun!!

May 28th is actually our first race day for the season. The turnout sounds like it should be pretty good.
tw78911sc 05-19-2005, 08:04 PM Will roof heights need to be at 4.5"?

Will roof heights need to be at 4.5"?
Tom
For the regional, yes.
racknok 05-20-2005, 09:42 AM Isn't it 4 1/4
racknok 05-20-2005, 09:44 AM Roadsplat send me that car and I will get it allready for you if you ever come back. You can also have all the pieces back.
Jamie Hanson 05-20-2005, 11:11 AM Isn't it 4 1/4
I don't remember quite right but I think the Roar rule book states 4 1/2 for capped tires.
Are you going to come play with us outdoors buddy ole pal?
I don't remember quite right but I think the Roar rule book states 4 1/2 for capped tires.
James, sir you are correct. The min. weight is different for cap tire races also.
MKingsley 05-24-2005, 10:09 AM Saturday is the first race of the summer - hopefully the weather forecast changes and it will be sunny and 75. Who all is coming???
I'll be there. running 5800?
Jamie Hanson 05-24-2005, 08:19 PM I will be there, weather permitting
MKingsley 05-24-2005, 08:51 PM 5800 for me too. I do want to try 4300 just to see. Hope that everybody can come - if the weather doesn't work on Saturday maybe we can get together for something on Sunday or Monday. Even if it is just a practice it would be better than nothing.
Jamie Hanson 05-24-2005, 09:17 PM I assume 5800 is going to be the class? I know Sparks was running 5800 and liked it.

Anyone up for practicing Saturday?
Randy Erb 06-02-2005, 09:58 PM Hi Dave
The Lansing Track will be closed this Fri, Sat and Sun due to the people who live behind the track. They politly asked if we would accept the request in which we have due to a graduation gathering. So this is the reason for the track closing this week end.
THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Randy
hobbyten 06-07-2005, 05:01 PM i think that everyone involved in the grand ledge track should be commended for taking the weekend off so these people could have their party. if more groups did this there would be less hassels with the locals when you want to have an event. again great decision by the people involved
Roadsplat 07-06-2005, 02:54 PM Just wondering how the racing has been going here so far this summer. Wish I could make it down to race with you guys but I can't.
RC

Anyone have an extra brushless setup I can run for the day? The new GTB never got released and I was waiting on that to jump into BL.
Roadsplat 07-26-2005, 12:21 PM Wish I could Dave. Hoping to at least stop by and watch for a bit.
Ray
Echeconnee 07-26-2005, 05:10 PM It sounds like you guys are having as much fun with the brushless as we are. Are you running the 5800 wide open or in the limited mode? We run them limited on a 305' slightly banked concrete tri-oval and we are averageing 5.8 second laps all the way through the run of 5 minutes. We love the brushless!!
www.echeconneesuperspeedway.tk
We are running the 5800 in open mode. Getting 6.0 up front and about 6.2, 6.3 at the end of the run on a 340' slightly banked track. It looks like it is a tick faster than 19 turn.
Echeconnee 07-27-2005, 05:38 PM We are running just a 10th or so slower than 19t but on the average the brushless averages faster for a whole run because they are not dropping off at the end of the run.
MKingsley 07-30-2005, 01:47 PM beautiful day at the track ......too bad no one showed up.
tw78911sc 07-31-2005, 10:49 PM Sorry I didn't make it, flight from LA got canceled and ended up on a red eye that didn't get my home until it was too late to try. My car was ready and I was looking forward to it.
