Just picked this up on DVD and I'm delighted. I've really been looking forward to this disc.

Let me start off by saying something that I know will be controversial...but I think this is the finest reunion movie ever made.

I know you can never please all the fans and some people will think my statement is just plain nuts. However, if you look at the nature of reunion movies and the the resources available to work with, I can't imagine a better job than was done with RETURN TO THE BATCAVE.

I will sound like I'm parroting the liner notes but the notes with the disc echo my feelings. The orignal series is nearing 40 years old. Have you seen how most reunion shows are done? Old stars are trotted out on stage where they sit on stools while old clips play in the background and a moderator asks questions (snore)?

RETURN TO THE BATCAVE did a brilliant (yes, I actually said "brilliant") job of combining the very best aspects of a reunion show. They actually took a couple of old TV stars and let them play action heroes without embarrassing them by squeezing them into the old costumes. Adam and Burt got to play wonderful hybrid characters that were part reality and part oldtime, campy heroes. We also got a behind the scenes mini-movie where actors recreated the goofy glory days of BATMAN. This was all wrapped up in a plot as silly as the original show. And, even if you don't like the plot, the producers deserve credit for actually making a show with a story and not just an extended Entertainment Tonight interview. This was a UNIQUE experience.

One more thing, Batfans should count themselves lucky that Adam, Burt and many others are still around to do this kind of work. Think of other sitcoms from that era. For example, virtually all the principle cast members from BEWITCHED, HOGANS HEROES and MY FAVORITE MARTIAN are no longer with us.

THE DISC. You want the bad news first? No extras. Sure I'd love more. Who wouldn't? But Image made a disc package
full of extras and interviews.

Now, the GREAT news. This disc is 16x9 anamorphic with 5.1 surround sound! The picture quality is fantastic. Most TV shows are released in 4x3 even if they were made in 16x9. Anchor bay did this one justice. This is one of those reasons to buy a show on DVD even if you taped it. I still have my VHS copy which is now officially trash with the advent of this beautifully done disc.

LAST QUALIFIERS: Dirt cheap...paid $12.99CDN. And I can't comment on the sound because I used a different DVD player (to check the transfer rate) which isn't hooked into my surround system (I'll check that tonight).

My local Best Buy didn't have it. Gotta look around for a copy. I really enjoyed it as well.

The perfect companion piece to the Batmania! discs from last year.

Huzz, I bought it at Future Shop. BTW, here in Winnipeg, they literally built the Best Buy and the Future Shop right next to each other. I'm not kidding. They share the same parking lot. And since Best Buy owns Future Shop, I think of them as one big store!

The circumstances of the acquisition were a bit strange. I had wanted this disc and I put it on a written list. But I had completey forgotten that it came out today. I didn't expect the local places to carry it so I had almost put it out of my mind with the expectation that I would have to order it online. So, when I went to the store, I wasn't at all looking for it.

Fortunately, Future Shop had about ten copies which they prominently displayed next to TEAM AMERICA. If it hadn't been front and center, I wouldn't have found it.

I enjoyed the show on TV too and may just have to pick it up. I WILL NOT be purchasing "Team America" however. Once in the theater was enough.

I have to confess that I did, after much soul searching, buy TEAM AMERICA.

I based my decision on the following "logic":

I don't get ANYTHING done by Parker and Stone. None of it is remotely entertaining or funny. I've never cracked a smile at SOUTH PARK and I wonder how juvenile you have to be to find it funny. I saw ORGAZMO and I can only guess it was supposed to be comedy...since it has a funny title.

But I noticed that most Parker and Stone fans don't like TEAM AMERICA.

I figure if their usual fans don't like TEAM AMERICA, then I just might!

And I'm not kidding. That truly was the deciding factor. If all the SOUTH PARK fans told me they loved TEAM AMERICA, I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole! Anyway, I hope to see it later tonight and I'll get to make up my own mind.

I've never watched an episode of South Park in my life and never seen any of their movies but I thought the Sylvia and Gary Anderson thing would be enough to hook me in - and it was - for about three minutes. I've got no problem with "dirty humor" - as long as it's funny. 99% of "Team America" wasn't - at least to me - and I promise that had nothing to do with the politics of the movie either.

To be fair, like most of their movies Orgazmo was made before South Park hit big. It was originally a $1.98 budget Troma picture made years ago, I thought it had it's moments for a low budget raunchy comedy, compared to the usual stuff Troma releases it's Citizen Kane. While sometimes their humor is way too grade school-gross out for me (I think South Park jumped the shark this season with the sex-change episode) , I thought Cannibal:The Musical, Baseketball, and the South Park movie were all pretty funny. I'm sure Team America will be showing up at the used DVD store soon.

You oughta check out a South Park DVD or two, Zorro, while wildly uneven there were some inspired episodes, and almost every episode features some clever movie "homages". At least check out the one that illustrates the history of the Mormon religion!

Having read "Under The Banner of Heaven", it can't be more bizarre than the true story.

Team America peaks at the projectile vomiting scene and then goes downhill after that, WAY downhill..... I did almost piss myself when the guy was vomiting though!

I'm planning to rent it tonight.

I have high expectations about the scene where they blow up the Michael Moore puppet that has been filled with baloney!

Team America was hilariouis, IMHO. The only failing it had was the excessive use of profanity. It was used as a joke at first (puppets cursing is funny to me) but after a while, it got pretty old and was way past making its point.

I nearly passed out laughing when the "panthers" were unleashed.

It was just so silly, and there isn't enough silly in the world.

I keep thinking of something either Matt or Trey said..."I never realized how difficult it is to make a parody of a Bruckheimer movie and still make a good movie."

I will give props to a couple of the songs. "America - F### Yeah!" and Kim Jong ll singing "I'm All A'rone in The World" were relatively inspired.

The America song is pretty F'ing funny. The Panthers are funny too. The l"et's see how graphically we can kill actors in league with terrorists" got old after about the seventh time.

Not to mention "We need a Montage!" and "Pearl Harbor Sucked But I miss You".

The wife surprised me with the unrated version tonight, I thought it was was funny as hell, even the way the puppets walked had me chuckling.

I thought it was hilarious that the giant statue of Kim Jong Il was just a chinese guy, painted gold, standing relatively still.

I have to say I'm rather surprised at how much I enjoyed TEAM AMERICA.

I'm not a fan of gross-out comedy and this one went over-the-top. There comes a point where it began to detract from the film. Nevertheless, it was funny enough that I could tolerate the excess.

This is one of those films that looks like it will enjoy much more popularity on DVD than it did in the theater. I believe it could be classified as a mild flop theatrically. However, I noticed today that it was the number one seller on many online sites. And, also surprising to me, it seems to be getting some unexpected critical support.

I got a good deal (I think). I got it for $19.95CDN which included a free TEAM AMERICA T-shirt (Fruit of the Loom heavy cotton). That's about $16.00US and a few bucks worth of bonus for the shirt...not too bad.
