Okay, guys; here’s what we have worked up.

There will be a summer series, to run from May through August.

The series will be a combined outdoor asphalt/indoor carpet series; to determine a true Virginia Oval Champion in each of five Classes; Spec Truck; Stock; 21 Turn Limited; and 19-Turn Open; as well as .09 Nitro cars.

The series will be a combined series, in cooperation with Thunder Road and Coopers. Each track will hold one Series Race per month; four races total at each track.

Thunder Road will close one weekend per month; that weekend to coincide with the Series Race at Coopers.

Each competitor will be allowed to drop his worst finish at each track. IOW; only the top three finishes from each track will be counted.

The Virginia Oval Champion, in each Class, will be the racer with the best combined points finishes. The final ranking at each track will be combined; with equal weight given to finishing order at each track.

Points at each race will be awarded as follows: One point for TQ; winner gets one point for each entrant; decreasing by one point per position. If ten racers enter, the winner gets ten points; second, nine points; third, eight points; etc.

This will run as though each track were hosting a separate series; with the finishes combined after the last race, to determine the Champions in each Class. At series end, racers at each track, and in each Class, will be ranked in order; first, second, third, etc. One “series point” will be awarded for first place; two for second; three for third; etc.

The racer with the lowest total combined score, from each track, will be the Virginia Oval Champion in each Class.

Suitable plaques will be awarded for the winner in each Class. Each track will also continue with its normal race payout.

Exact dates for June, July and August are still to be determined; but will be ironed out in the next few days.

The first Virginia Oval Championship Series Race at Coopers will be on May 14th; the first at Thunder Road will be on May 21st.

Thunder Road will be closed on May 14th; to allow its racers to compete in the Series Race at Coopers.

Thanks; Ernie P.

One correction: The .09 Nitro Cars will obviously be a "Coopers Only" Class. No Nitro Cars on the carpet. But you knew that already, right? Thanks; Ernie P.

Do these tracks have web sites? If so would you be able to post links to them.

Thunder Road's web site is: http://www.thunderroadrc.com/

Cooper's does not have a web page but join the forum on the T. Road site and get more information about either track. OR simply ask here LOL.

Cooper's RC Race Center is proud to join with Ernie at Thunder Road with this series. I think it will be a lot of fun to see who can race on BOTH paved AND carpet tracks.

Since we do not have a site up for our track, I will give you the address and you can look it up on Map Quest for directions from where you are coming: Cooper's RC Race Center, 4000 Sago Road, Callands, VA 24530. Map Quest will say there is no such number but just say yes to what they suggest and it will get you there.

Don't forget the first race of the series is THIS WEEKEND at Cooper's so make your plans to be there.

Both tracks will do anything we can, to help racers who want to run with us. Just let us know.

Eight races in four months; outdoors and in; asphalt and carpet; all to find out who really is the best on oval! What more could you want? Thanks; Ernie P.

Just a reminder; Saturday is the first race of the VA Oval Championship Series between Cooper’s and Thunder Road so don’t miss out. Each track will have it’s own series and track champion then there will be a “combined” track champion based on the usual number of races and number of wins etc.

The setup is close to the same, except for the tires of course. So all it would mean is changing tires and doing a little fine-tuning for the carpet. This could really be a fun and competitive deal if we all do as much as we can to support it.

As a side note: We hear all the time about tracks not working with each other and yada, yada, yada. Ernie Padgette (the owner of Thunder Road) is certainly an exception to this rule. He is closing his track once a month to allow his racers to come to Cooper’s and take part in this Championship Series. It would really mean a lot to him and to me as well if the Cooper’s racers would consider taking part in this and make the trip to Thunder Road once a month as well.
