May 14th is the date of our second annual Dave Fenwick Memorial Race at Cooper's RC Race Center in Callands, VA. We approach this race with a lot of mixed emotions. While we still miss Dave a lot, we can’t think of a better way to honor his memory than to hold a race in the hobby that he so dearly loved.
Dave was a great guy and a great racer as well. A strong supporter of Thunder Road in Gordonsville, VA, Dave was always there to give a hand (and a laugh) to anyone he could. Although he was not a big fan of paved track racing, Cooper’s RC Race Center is proud to hold this race once again in his honor. Race fee will be $25 with a cash payback to 1st thru 3rd in all classes that have 5 or more entries. The actual payback will depend on the number of entries in the class.

Coopers is a great oval track. I had a blast running there last week; and can't wait to get back. Thanks for putting on a great show, Lin. Ernie P.

There is no web page but you can see a few pics in the old issue of rc-oval.com that is STILL up. Look under the Invitational articles. www.rc-oval.com (http://www.rc-oval.com)

Cooper's is a capped tire only track. We have good luck with four Pinks, 3 "L's" and a "R" right rear. Pro lites on the inside and Nets on the outside. We will have plenty of tires at the track (at a good price) if you need them.
The track has a 321 ft center line, asphalt surface with slight banking. It is in a D shape and the lanes are 21 ft wide which makes for plenty of room for passing. The infield is also paved so it you go off the track you can drive back on without hurting your car.
The drivers stand is about 12 ft above the track so there is a clear few of the track from anywhere on it.
Depending on the class you run, a "Basic" setup is: two red springs on the front (maybe a white on the right side), a medium spring rate on the Center Shock and soft springs on the Side Shocks. The Monte Carlo body seems to be the choice with the wing on the pod.
Hope this helps and we look forward to you being there.

By the phone calls and emails, it looks like a good crowd coming for the Dave Fenwick Race. Classes look like Stock, Spec Trucks, 19 Turn and Nitro .09.
Are YOU going to be there?

Check out the separate announcement on the first "true" Virginia Oval Championships. This could get interesting! Who really is the best? On both asphalt and carpet? We're getting ready to find out! Thanks; Ernie P.
