View Full Version : The new Bond
rw2516 04-27-2005, 02:53 PM Read on another BB that Judi Dench stated Brosnan will be back for the next Bond, CASINO ROYALE. Since Columbia owns the 1967 version I wonder if it will become part of the next "James Bond Collection" dvds along with the official Bonds.
sbaxter 04-27-2005, 03:36 PM I heard the same -- Dench supposedly said that "despite everyone in the world" testing for the role, Brosnan would return as Bond and it would be officially announced sometime this summer.
I hope this is true. I know he can't be Bond forever regardless, but I figure I now understand how Connery fans must have felt back when he gave up the part. As much as I appreciate Connery's Bond -- which is a great deal -- Brosnan has become my favorite.

trevanian 04-27-2005, 05:22 PM If so, then the script needs drastic revision. CR as it stands now is supposed to go back to Bond's roots and show the incident that made him into what we've seen in past films, at least so say the scripters. That is part of why THEY pushed for a younger Bond. Obviously you need to throw a lot of history out the window to do this, and the baggage Brosnan would carry (plus his age) makes that a no-winner.
On the other hand, Brosnan could probably do the big talk scene well (not as well as Dalton), assuming they keep it in (the script is supposed to be pretty faithful, but I'll be very surprised if they do ... in it, Bond discusses the nature of evil with a fellow agent while recuperating from some BAD stuff, and he ventures the opinion that by destroying the villain he did a bad thing, since the villain established a standard for villainy that might not be matched by others.)
They also say that the script sticks with the novel's last line, which means this should be the first downer Bond since OHMSS back in 69.
Commanderbond.net and some forum like 'absolutejamesbond' has a lot of stuff on this project.
trevanian 04-27-2005, 05:23 PM my other 2 cents is that Brosnan HAS managed to do a near-definitive turn as Bond ... but it was not in a Bond movie. It was in TAILOR OF PANAMA.

Watched this again just the other night. Terrific film, featuring a wonderful performance by Geoffrey Rush -- but the star of the show is indeed Pierce Brosnan, whose turn as a charmingly roguish, morally bankrupt "Anti-Bond" is absolutely irresistible (the fitting room scene between Brosnan and Rush is reason enough to rent the movie).
f1steph 04-27-2005, 11:24 PM And also that Maria Carey migh be a Bond girl in the new movie. I saw that in today's newpaper. Rumors, rumors, rumors. Will just have to wait 'til the movie comes out.

John P 04-28-2005, 07:44 AM Mariah is one of my favorite faces to look at. I think she's just beautiful. I even like one or two of her songs. But Acting? Bond girl?!? Nah!
Zorro 04-28-2005, 09:13 AM ... thought she was a lot cuter before the boob job. She now looks like she ought to be hovering about 40 feet above the Macy's Christmas Parade.
The Batman 04-28-2005, 09:28 AM ... thought she was a lot cuter before the boob job. She now looks like she ought to be hovering about 40 feet above
