Hello? Kit making people? Serenity needs a nice 18" minimum plastic kit!

Wow, the trailer is quite impressive!

Now, as someone who has never watched FireFly, is this movie going to make sense to me? 'Cause I'd really like to see it, but I'm worried I'll need inside info on the television series...

The Joss has specifically designed it so that newbies can follow it, and he's been spending the last few weeks tweaking for the stuff that the raw test audience didn't understand. The movie has a bit of a reset in it, reshowing some of the events in the pilot. For the fans, there is plenty of meat that reveals a bunch of the things they never got to in the series

This being said, you've got 4 months to watch 15 episodes, you're doing yourself a great injustice if you don't see it

Oh, don't get me wrong, I really do want to see it, I just don't think I'll have the time in the *near* future... maybe next year sometime... :)

What worries me is the line that says there's six of them. The series had nine regular characters. Who's missing? I didn't see Kaylee or Book in the trailer. I can live without the mysterious preacher, but, damn, if Kaylee's missing I'll be really sad. :(

If you looked carefully (and use the pause button), Kaylee is defineatly standing behind Mal in the group shot at the beginning part of the trailer. In the same shot there's also another black guy at the extreme right that I'm almost positive isn't Book, unless they recast the part and got another younger guy to replace Ron Glass.

The "six rebels" line is kind of puzzling though, unless Simon, River, and book are only passengers and not technically rebels. I guess the space hooker is kind of a grey area.

Unless someone in PR just couldn't count!

Dan, find the time. This was one of the best shows ever. It's worth missing a lot of other TV shows for. You can take out a free month's trial on Netflix and "rent" the DVDs from them.

And, hey, if there was ever an argument that you can make a great movie based on a TV show, this looks like it. "Firefly" looked great. "Serenity" looks stunning.

All nine crew members are listed as cast members on the "Serenity" website (http://www.serenitymovie.com/).

the "6 rebels" thing has me thrown as well. I had heard that Book's role was much smaller in the film cuz Joss wanted to tell River's story, but as much as he likes Kaylee, and as much press Jewel has done, I can't see her role being diminished. it's probably that Book, River and Simon aren't being counted since they're passengers

Looking forward to this very much. I got to hang out with Nathan Fillion and Jewel (mmmm... Jewel...) Staite last Autumn and they were very excited about it. The only had a week left of filming at the time.
Both of them were terrifically nice people.
And Jewel looks about 12 times better in person than on film, so... do the math.

Hmmm ... I didn't realize the series and the film had Gina Torres, who was "Anna Espinoza" on Alias and "Julia Milliken" on 24.

Trailer looks good; I didn't see much of the series, but I might see check out the movie.

I was kind of hoping Richard Brooks might be coming back as Jubal Early from the last episode, he was pretty memorable in a role (the clever-but-psychotic bounty hunter) that could have easily been a cliche'.

I'm heartily with those recommending the episodes on DVD, "Out of Gas" and "Objects in Space" are about as good as episodic TV can get.

Supposedly Ron Glass's duties as museum director kept him from being in the film more. All 9 are in the film, and the trailer is only counting the crew at the beginning of the series in the 6 (Mal, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Kaylee, Inara), then there's the 3 that came on (Book, Simon, River) in the pilot.

This was an "action" trailer, something that Kaylee is never too involved in. Or do we have to remind you of how River had to take over? :)

Also on Cleopatra 2525 wasn't she?

I've been psyched about this since I saw the bootleg of the first trailer from the SD Comicon. Before they had any of the effects stuff done for it.
After seeing this, I am just drooling, and needing to break out my DVDs to watch them again.

My friend who's working on it said the effects in the trailer are just temps. He said "Wait'll you see the final shots!"

They looked pretty finished to me. The trailer was assembled around 6 weeks ago, and Joss said that it's 99% complete at this point (music tweaks), so I don't think they were all temps

It is typical though that trailers are using temps

One thing I have noticed is that people who watched Firefly and didn't like it much, don't seem to trash the show on the threads.Too much class?
I did get to see a bit of the trailer at Hitchiker and It did look good.I will definitely see it

I 've encountered the occasional Whedon-Hater over at TrekBBS who automatically hates everything he does. They'll happily point out all the Whedonisms in the show such as the oh-so-clever dialogue. But everything they say as reason to dislike Joss are reason a DO like Joss, so whaddayagonnado.

It's simply that they know that it's quality, they just don't happen to enjoy it stylistically.

Hell, I hated every Tarantino movie until Kill Bill, when he finally made something I could enjoy.

I liked that one.

Elmore Leonard's "Rum Punch" was a outstanding book, arguably his best, I was amazed Tarantino actually improved on it by casting Pam Grier (Jackie was white in the book and a little less cool). It's my favorite too, though I like most of his other flicks. Even Reservoir Dogs, though I don't buy his "homage" explanation of why it's so similiar to City on Fire.

Kill Bill is arguably his most minor film, it's basically a cartoon, albeit a flashy, well acted, and very proficently made cartoon. And I think that was Tarantino's intention as well.

Tarantino set out to make a great HK action style film. He succeeded to a T, so I loved it. With the rest of his films I tend to fall asleep around the 78th use of the word f**k in the first 10 minutes. It's not that I object to profanity, I just didn't like his style until he grafted it onto other people's.

The one that was shown at the SD Comicon last year.

No he was talking about the recent trailer.

As for the films status: They have about 60 final effects shots to complete in the next three weeks.
