View Full Version : Richard Adkins will speak at Wild Weekend 5 Icons Dinner
sixty3feulie 04-23-2005, 12:05 PM Richard Adkins has chosen the Industry Icons dinner at Wild Weekend 5 on July 9 to make a major announcement that will be of great interest to all die-cast collectors. I can't reveal any details right now, except to say that his announcement will impact the hobby in a very positive way. Hope you can all come out to Wild Weekend to be part of this exciting event!
Pushin50 04-24-2005, 02:55 PM I admit that I am only vaguely familiar with some of the Muscle Machines designers so pardon me if this seems to be a really stupid question.... what is Richard Adkins title with Muscle Machines?
gremlin 04-25-2005, 09:48 PM Sorry I am showing my ignorance here I have never heard of this gentleman before. Being somewhat of a newcomer to the hobby. My most humble apologies.
sixty3feulie 04-26-2005, 01:45 PM Sorry for not clarifying better. Richard Adkins is not affiliated with Muscle Machines. He is the owner/proprietor of Adkins Collectibles, a major die-cast retailer/wholesaler located in Wisconsin. His announcement, however, will positively impact ALL die-cast collectors. Wish I could reveal more, but I've been sworn to secrecy.
midtown 04-26-2005, 02:14 PM So it isn't the diet guru? ;)

It doesn't have anything to do with some deal he's been trying to get done with Wal-Mart, does it?
midtown 05-06-2005, 11:57 AM He's trying to get all the overweight diecast collectors on his diet. Tell us more abou this Wa*Mart thing. How is EVERY diecast collector going to be affected by this man.

I just remember a year or so ago hearing about some deal where he would 'manage' the diecast space at Wal-Mart. What exactly that means, I'm not sure. Don't know if that's even the announcement that's being referred to here.
midtown 05-06-2005, 12:17 PM manage? Does that mean he's going to pull all the TH's and WL's and sell them at his online store?

Macs_Little_Car 05-06-2005, 05:41 PM I can't imagine ANYTHING Ritchie would do that would affect me....
sixty3feulie 05-16-2005, 09:06 AM Sorry to all that I haven't been able to reply sooner to your posts regarding Richard Adkins. And sorry about all the secrecy, but it is a condition of Richard making his announcement at Wild Weekend. I can assure you, however, that is has absolutely nothing to do with Wal-Mart, or any other retailer, for that matter. It is a service that he will be providing, and it will benefit any collector who decides to take advantage of it.
midtown 05-16-2005, 09:18 AM Oh no, diecast grading. It was only a matter of time...
Macs_Little_Car 05-16-2005, 09:30 AM Who grades the grader? What would make one person more capable of grading than another? Also, isn't there already a company that will grade and seal your cars for you?
That must not be what this is all about since it is not something new..
aremer... 06-02-2005, 08:45 PM from what i've seen & heard - he has NO business grading cards.
lenny 06-03-2005, 12:08 AM from what i've seen & heard - he has NO business grading cards.
From the way he's been dumping stuff off his website, he has no business, period!!
dipstick 06-26-2005, 11:33 AM LOL - Richard managing the diecast at Walmart?? Other than he sold his limited HWs runs to wally becuase he couldn't sell them, and I heard he is planning something similiar now, he has little to no association with Walmart.
Why would the walmart buyers and planners turn over those aisles to him??
I have heard quite a bit of scuttle-butt about the announcement (s) - two different things not sure what is real - one is interesting, the other same ole, same ole.
Not sure I would classify RA as an Industry Icon either. Wasn't he the Texas Whirlpool King from years gone by???
*****************************************
Anyway - can someone please tell me - being an outsider in these east coast events - what all the hoopla is abut the size change and so forth?? Is there a Wicked Weekend AND a wild weekend?? Event organizers split the event or something?? Just trying to keep up - just the facts, no bashing as I just want to understand what the deal is after reading a number of posts about it.
Thanks!
timelesstoys 06-26-2005, 05:24 PM I usually don't like to get involved in this kind of stuff because it doesn't solve anything on either side. But because you are looking for an explanation without any bashing here goes. Yes there are two events held in Connecticut each summer. The Wild Weekend and the Wicked Weekend of Hot Wheels. There was a separation a few years ago between Randy, the promoter of the Wild Weekend and Southern New England Hot Wheels. SNEHW went on to start their own show lasts year, The Wicked Weekend of Hot Wheels. Some of the members of both sides have some axes to grind against each other, so problems do arise from time to time. Most of the people on both sides have a live and let live attitude though. I hope that helps you to understand the situation. For further information on SNEHW or the Wickend Weekend,

Yeah, what did he have to say?
32lowboy 07-11-2005, 09:15 PM So what was this big announcement? I missed it on CNN...
"In order to conserve our natural resource of oil and to save countless hours and miles of driving by collectors a deal has been struck between all major diecast companies and me so any and all chase, limited, or really hot collectables will no longer be randomly packed into regular cases, instead they will be shipped directly to me to be distributed to colletors as I see fit at a price I think is fair.
I am king, thank you and good night"
j/k here guys, what did he have to say?
Joe Falco 07-12-2005, 07:53 AM Seems odd that this 'major' announcement hasn't been posted anywhere on the web--not at Adkins site, not on any of the message boards, not at the Wild Weekend site.

Maybe both of the people that attended Wild Weekend are still too giddy from the experience to post anything yet....

lenny 11-21-2005, 08:55 AM Did Adkins ever make that bad announcement of his?

Milezone 11-21-2005, 09:07 PM I thought Adkins gave up over a year ago? Seems the site was not updated with new product since then? Guess we will wait and see. :-)

dipstick 11-21-2005, 09:23 PM He was at BTTF here in Mpls this summer taunting some new announcement as well. Richard was an innovator in his day but he looked wore out and tired. I had heard he was given up the biz and going back to Hot Tubs but I may be wrong...
