I got buddy here at work that just got a use pu and the pin striping is dry rotted and peeling. The Q is that some of it is still stuck good, Is there anything he can use to remove the pin striping and save the paint? Thanks in advance ,Rauncy

What about a heat gun set on low to try and loosen the adhesive. I had a friend use one to remove the emblems off the quarters on his PU. Took a little time, but was worth it because he was able to reuse the emblems after his new paint job. rr

GooGone - Most auto supply, or hardware stores.

Heat gun maybe good for someone with experince but not for beginners like us.
Goo Gone seems to be the product most suggested.

That's for sure. Good way to fry a paint job if you're not careful. rr

All I ever *saw* a heat gun used for was removing paint. It would take some practice before I tried it for sure. The only time I ever used one was to dry off my pants here at work when I splashed water on them.

Try yer wifes hair dryin gun too. Not as hot as a heat gun, but ya may still leave some glue. Use the goo-gone for that or just household mineral spirits paint thinner. If the stripes aint under the clearcoat, that should work.

I apply and remove hundreds of yards of vinyl graphics eavry year. I'd check with my local automotive bodyshop supplier/jobber or if you have a local vinyl graphics supplier the better. There are plastic razors blades made just for this type of application, or de-application in your case. They work great, quickly, and without damaging the paint.

If you feel confident enough, you can take a single edged razor blade, dull it a bit by rubbing it at about a 60-70 degree angle on a piece of glass to knock off a bit of the sharpness. This will allow enough edge to get the vinyl off without biting into the paint.

Goo Gone and other such "remover" work well on the adhesive but typically the vinyl pinstripe itself seals up the adhesive and the remover may not be able to penetrate far enough under the vinyl to melt the adhesives.
