Going to get into dirt oval, been rcing mainly carpet. I just bought a used Custom Works Sprint Car on e-bay, waiting for it's arrival. It is a transmission car not a direct drive and was described as having an MIP transmission. Went to the M.I.P. web site but found no info on a transmission, guess they no longer make/distribute one. Does anyone out there have any info on a MIP gear trany? Thanks Ralf 13

I believe they had a 1.96 tranny conversion for the RC10 based vehicles way back a few years ago. Parts might be hard to find now as you have found out they are no longer making the tranny.

Was already thinking of converting it to direct drive. I have some old RC-10s laying around and have several Assoc. trannys also. When the car gets here I will be able to tell if it is new enough to have the holes already drilled for the direct drive "tranny" or not. Was looking for an inexpensive way to get into dirt oval. Can't afford a new CW car on my budget. If anyone has any spare parts, instructions for building, etc. for the MIP transmission send me a pm or post here. Thanks Ralf 13

If the tranny comes as part of the CW car, it should be available from them. Check their website to see if the kit you're getting is listed, then go to the parts list to check on the availability of the tranny parts. Just my input.

PS-I have the MIP tranny you refer to in my RC10-DS dirt oval car.

Hey Ralf, get you a stealth gearbox from a few years ago, B2 maybe? Run the MIP till you have trouble and change in the stealth. The car should have Associated parts on the back already.

the tranny is no longer made.. it was MIP who first did the three gear tranny.. it came out before the stealth tranny did,, late 80's to early 90's... it was a houps tranny for the RC10 series cars...your best bet if the tranny is in good shape, is to put it right back on eBay (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1606754-2202639)http://www.awltovhc.com/image-1606754-2202639. some people want them for collector pieces.. parts are not available, unless you want to keep checking eBay (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1606754-2202639)http://www.awltovhc.com/image-1606754-2202639 every day in hopes of finding one...

ive seen em go for 15-30 dollars on eBay (http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1606754-2202639)http://www.awltovhc.com/image-1606754-2202639... i seen a few new ones go for more.. if you want to sell it email me. with a price when you get it and inspect it.. im looking for a old style tranny for me vintage ride i am making.. thanks

Burbs, I just want a transmission I can get parts for. If you have a newer Asoc. stealth trany maybe we could work a trade. I could give you some cash or if you are into old Assoc. stuff maybe an aluminum tub with ssome suspension parts, or some cash and the MIP transmission for your stealth transmission. Let me know, sprinter should be on the way, can send pics of the MIP transmission if you want to see it. Ralf 13

Close but no cigar! Oh well, let me know. I will trade you if you can get a stealth that I can get parts for when it needs a re-build and have a good chance to find parts for at the track. If you can use the MIP transmission for your retro Kyosho Sprinter restoration then thats cool for us both. Is that a "Sideways" model sprinter? Wanted one when they were new! Good luck with your re-build. Ralf 13

I think I still have a Stealth tranny from the DS here somewhere. I'll look for it and let you know about trading for the MIP box. I have enough Associated cars with Stealths and could use the MIP for something I'm working on. Let me know if you're interested.

Goodwreck Will get back to you, but have to give Burbs first shot at it as he asked about it first. I haven't even gotten the car yet, will post when it is here and I know what condition it is in. Will take pics for e-mailing. Thanks Ralf 13

Got the sprint car, hate buying E-bay, wish someone on the thread had had a sprint car when I bought this one. Some damage to the chasis not mentioned along with some missiong parts. The MIP tranny looks to be in good shape. Hope to have time tomorrow or the next day to start taking the car apart, will snap some pics of the transmission for posting. Wife had surgery on her foot and will be home for a while, needs LOTS of attention. Ralf 13

Started tearing into the sprinter today. Hate people on E-bay who don't tell the whole story! Anyway. The transmission looks pretty slick compared to the original RC-10 trany I am used to. It seems to be ok from the outside EXCEPT 2 things. 1) the left side outdriive shows some wear(see second photo), right side looks fine? 2) there is a crack in the cast portion where the mounting screw goes into the trany on the right side also, it does not go into the transmission part it is on th eoutside part of the casting (you can see it below the outdrive in the second pic also). If Burbs still wants to trade for a Assoc. Stealth trany he has first crack at it. If he is not interested Goodwreck you have second option. If neither of you want to trade I will put a little CA in the crack and clamp it. It looks like the outdrive will last a while and is replaceable if I can find he part. Let me know as if you guys don't want it I will start taking it apart to see how it looks inside as soon as I go over the chassis. Thanks Ralf 13

I had one of those 15 years ago. It is a rock-solid tranny but you won't find parts for it. And it is hard to set the diff. You have to split the case to do it. Collectors may bid it up on ebay ( $20- $30 ) It is a piece of R/C history It did come out before the Stealth that AE developed. Back then there was every concievable tranny replacement for the RC10. Belt , chain and a few different 3-gear trannys. Put it on a shelf and look at it. It is a well designed aftermarket product.

HEY ! MIP start making parts available for the MIP tranny! Better yet bring back the tranny too! Doubt that that helps me find parts! : ) I am just looking to get into dirt oval at a reasonable cost. Anybody want to trade this "well designed aftermarket tranny" (which is becoming collectable?) for a contemporary Assoc. tranny that I can get parts for? Thanks Ralf 13

Hey Goodwreck, If I don't hear from Burbs in another day or two you got a trade if the Stealth is raceable/rebuildable, at least I can still buy parts for it. Got any pics of the stealth, how old is it? Thanks Ralf 13
