Today I tried to access Radtrax's HO area and I got re-directed to a letter dated 4/20/05. The letter states sad to say we're closing etc.etc. You can find it at the link below. Hate to see slot people go out of business. Brings back some old/bad memories....Dave

"Shed this mortal coil"? isn't that a Shakespeare reference to death? Go ahead, Google it. I think the actual quote was to "shuffle off this mortal coil".
man this sounds stupid, but i gotta ask... does that sound like an online suicide note?

I noticed he said "The seeming boycott of FLY slot cars which was at one time about 1/4 of our business."
This is Simple, Fly cars are now $60 and Up. I have boycotted Fly as well.
They used to have $40-$45 cars that were nice, but no more. Unless you get an old Shelf Warmer that someone decides to lose money on.
Sorry to see Radtrax gone, but I must be honest in thinking alot of their prices were out of line with Many other slotcar outlets.
Anyway, he is dead-on in saying there is very little profit margin in this hobby. Overhead will kill you. Why anyone wants big stores with Race Tracks only so you can Babysit someones kids for free is beyond me.
I Have seen many life savings lost due to Race Track Stores.
Just my Opinion, your Voltage may Vary :)
Thanks,
Keith

Its a sad but true commentary on the state of the hobby industry. The internet has changed the way people shop for their stuff, and its unfortunate for guys who run walk-in hobby shops. This isn't limited to slot shops.
I know of two other shop owners, one that specializes in static models, and the other who caters the the roleplaying/tabletop wargame crowd, and both of these guys cry the same blues: "Guys get stuff cheaper on eb@y. How can I compete with the guy running mail order out of his basement? Having a friendly inviting atmosphere and being super knowledgable only keeps some of the customers coming back, everyone else just goes for who's cheapest. People come in to browse and see the items up close, flip thru the books then go home and order them from someone else" etc etc.
Just the way of the world I suppose. Times change and thats the way it is. Price beats all. Its too bad for this RadTrax fella. I never dealt with him but it sounds like he had quite a place. Hope he finds happiness somewhere.
