Back in late 1972 I first got into HO as my son Kevin was about six months old and
as any fathere will tell you thats the best time to start your slot car hobby :)
I had race 1/24th and some HO with my best friend Mike in Charleston SC. At that
time we had just moved from a trailer yo a 3 bedroom home in a little town called
Milton in Fla. Aurora had intoduced the new snap lock track and the closest hobby
shop in Pensacola Fla made me a most excellent deal on all their stock of Lock and
Joiner in fact most of the track in GreenRun Speedway came from this purchase.
I just could not wait fro the next issue of Car Model magazine adn it inspired me.
Well around this time Dale Flnagan was touting a new magnetic car built by Tom Bowman
and I read where he was going in the Navy and I said to myself wouldn't it be cool
if we run into one another. Bust as fate had it that didn't happen until we both
finished up 20 years a piece and he retired here in Virginia Beach. Well Tom has
been a friend and still is an inspiration to me. He drive a read Miata with red/white
seat covers, So it just so happens that I have had in my desk drawer for some time
a Miata convertable. I made a mold and created a red Miata for Tom's Birthday which
his wife told me was today :) I liked the way an XT sat and how the new FF wheels
look. So I made it an XT mold. But I messed up the first one by pouring two part
of A resin into a brand new two part mold. I salvaged the inside but had to redo
the outside. The mounting is a little messed up due to some air bubbles in the
wrong place on the mold. However I did find out that the easy way to mount an XT
or AFX is to coat a chassis with oiil add hot glue to the inside of the body where
the mounting tabs will go then mount the body. Once the glue hardens you can remove
the body. I also put over sized tires on the front and rear and brought the body
down till the tires touched this gave me the perfect height when the glue dried.
The body is a little narrower than most XTs so I trimed the inside of the front
and rear wheels to bring them in.

So Happy Birthday Tom

Nice job Roger. I'll bet your hot glue mounting tecnique will work well with 1/43rd as well. I had that idea in my head for the proxy race comming up, but couldn't think of greasing the chassis. I'm going to give it a try.

I was going to put hot glue on then try and cut grooves in it, but I couldn't think of a good way to position the grooves. I am anxious to try your method.

Hi Roger
Once again, you have made a very good looking body! I'll bet Tom will be thrilled! Thanks for the tip using hot glue, if you dont mind, I'll try that.

Roger, you should have re-created one of the AutoWorld style potholder magnet car chassis for Mr Magnuts from your supply of original AFX chassis.
