View Full Version : BSG Season 1 Region 1; Season 1 music CD?
KyuMan 04-07-2005, 01:35 PM Hi All,
Anyone hear any news on when the new BSG Season 1 might be released in the US? Or the additional soundtrack music on CD?
I got the Miniseries soundtrack almost as soon as it was released, it's just great original music. Great themes, and who would have thought of using drums for the space battles?
Sword of Whedon 04-07-2005, 01:47 PM This fall to promote Season 2.
That's the way it is with most half season shows
why not help your wait by buying the original series DVDs, and see how Ron Moore is destroying someone else's creation?
Griffworks 04-07-2005, 01:56 PM Yeah. He's destroyed it so very, very thoroughly that the series was brought back for a second season! However, the original series apparently did so much better than this new once, since it was canceled after one season, then semi-sorta revived as the ever-so-craptacular "Galactica: 1980"..... ;)
I've heard no official word on when the DVD Season One set is to be released, but I heard a rumor that it might release by May...? Since the series starts back up again in July, I'd think May or June. It was released on Region 2 in the UK last month - roughly two months after the last episode aired over there. I'd like to think it stands to reason that they'd release the Season One set at roughly the same time frame and at least a couple weeks in advance of Season Two of this magnificent series off.

Sad how some people can't have an open mind.
I have the original DVD's and its easy to see how BSG '78' had the kid/young adult market in mind.
BSG 2003+ is absolutly 1000% better in all respects. Especially the writing.
I do wish that the Galactica looked a little more like the original, but hey its a small price to pay for something so much better.

EJO did warn fans of the original BSG to pop in the DVDs of the original series because they wouldn't like the new BSG. It turned out to be an advice that was not followed by many. I, for one, am happy not only to have disobeyed him but also that this new BSG captured my imagination for the first time since B5 went off the air.

tripdeer 04-08-2005, 01:44 AM Here's a question: What soundtrack (musically speaking) will be on the BSG season one set? The amazing, beautiful British version, or the watered-down craptacular US version? (WHY oh WHY did they alter the music?!?)

KyuMan 04-08-2005, 02:06 AM What?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You mean there's different soundtracks for the US aired versions from the British ones? Now that's intriguing....
I'm sure the miniseries soundtrack was the same for both, but I wasn't sure about the series. Although there was some re-use of the miniseries music for the series, there was some new material. Interesting use of almost Irish themes for "Hand of God". Did that episode air around St. Patrick's day in the UK as well?
tripdeer 04-08-2005, 04:38 AM Yeah, I know, I'm a horrible guy, but... I downloaded the episodes before they aired in the US, and loved the music... very percussion-ey, if that makes sense. I also rewatched them when they actually aired on the Space Channel in Canada, which were the same versions that aired on Sci-Fi in the US. The US version was more watered down. I didn't listen close enough to say whether or not that was the case in the episode to episode music, but the main theme is vastly different. As far as I could tell though, the music in "The Hand of God" is the same in both versions. BEAUTIFUL music in that episode, IMHO.
Griffworks 04-08-2005, 08:06 AM While I've not seen all of the US airings of the episodes, I've seen all of the SkyOne airings and not noticed a difference between the two with the US episodes I've watched. In fact, the only difference that stands out even now is the opening title sequence. In the SkyOne airings, you've got that lovely, haunting pseudo-lyric when we see the first images from the miniseries. Then at the "Hunh!" part, it goes right in to the drums that the U.S. version does as the snippets from that very episode start playing thru.
tripdeer 04-08-2005, 01:38 PM Hmm, well that's good. But, I really love that British opening title sequence!
Lloyd Collins 04-08-2005, 09:25 PM I am just happy with my original BSG set and my autographed CD soundtrack, thank you very much!
