I would appreciate knowing if the show is available in US. If not, hopefully it will be eventually. I've always been a fan of the Dr.

As far as I know, the US channels have not picked up the series. We have it here in Canada on the CBC Network. I believe there are some northern US states that do get this Canadian channel.

What about BBC in America? Any mention of it coming there?

I caught the show tonight! WOnderfully done, nicely updated for "now" and still retaining the spirit of the original shows!

Christopher Eccleston gives the Doctor the wonderful quirkiness that was so appealing. It's too bad that he will not be returning for the second season.

Last I heard, no US network has yet picked the show up. Perhaps that will change before too long. Time to start making those inquiries!

the cbc were very adamant last night about this being a "north american exclusive" so dont look for it on american tv anytime soon.

ok before carrying on let me say at first, im a major doctor who fan. i didnt tune in looking to find fault with it, quite the reverse, i was primed and ready to love it.i was terribly disappointed with last nights programme. first of all the plot was a semi-remake of an old pertwee episode. you'd have thought they could have cooked up something original for the first time out of the gate.

the phrase "recreated for today" keeps popping up: i suppose that means presented for the sesame street/video game/hyperactive zero-attention span generation. the show (and eccelson's doctor as well) might develop into something if somebody puts it on ritalin. these are one hour stand alone episodes, unlike the originals multi-part stories, so it races along at a breakneck pace, with no time to explore interesting concepts or or any kind of depth for that matter.

another phrase that keeps turning up is "keeping the spirit of the original". um no. imagine someone making an "in your face" captain kangaroo or mister rogers (mr. dress-up for our canadian friends), and you'll get the idea of how badly they missed the mark in the spirit department. (interestingly, the series producers seem to look down their nose at the 1995 film, but for my money that felt more like "doctor who" than last nights episode)

im going to keep watching however. im wonderfully happy to have the doctor back in any form. dispite the embarrasingly bad effects, dispite some things that are just plain dumb, im going to keep watching. maybe the show will find its feet in a few episodes. worse case scenario, the show always changes its tone with the introduction of a new doctor, and with eccelson leaving after this season, it might change radically again for next year.

I liked it. There were a few "hokey" parts but overall I thought it was pretty good. And unlike the movie (which I didn't like) they had the "real" TARDIS.
What I mean is that it looks like the Doctor's TARDIS. The way it's supposed to be. I think that's why the "movie" didn't work very well. It wasn't Doctor Who without the blue box TARDIS.

I am looking forward to the next episode.

um i dont know which movie you saw, but the 95 paul mcgann film certainly had the ol' blue police box. (it was one of the few things the producers said that they considered sacrosanct.) the interior was vastly different, yes, but the exterior was exactly the same

Yeah, if I remember correctly, the TV movie had the same TARDIS exterior and the same endearing horrible racket sound effect for the TARDIS (de)materializations.

If I could change to topic for a second. I'm curious about something concerning Canadian TV. I'm a big fan of MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE and have been tracking down episodes on video for several years. I have about 50 from TVLand Canada and they are completely uncut! The show is aired at the original 51 minutes. This is pretty much umheard of in the states. If the U.S. TVLand were to show them they would be cut by five or six minutes for sure. When first syndicated they were trimmed to 47 minutes by Paramount. I have several from 16mm syndication prints and all time at exactly 47 minutes. My question is whether there are government regulations in Canada limiting commercial time per hour something. This is a rarity. A 1960s TV show airing uncut on commercial tv is about as common as 1960s gasoline prices.
