Hello All,

I have a question for my American friends.....

I'll be taking my son to see Thomas the Tank Engine in Dearborn, Michigan in a couple of weeks, and my wife will want to go shopping.

Is the New Battlestar Galactica (Season 1) available on DVD in the United States? I know it's available in the UK already. Americans always get these kinds of item before us Canadians. I haven't seen the series and would really like to get hold of the series. Thanks....Bob

The mini-series is available (and a great DVD!) but Season 1 isn't available legitamately yet.

Well "legitamately" aside. Can I purchase a copy for evaluation purposes?

There's usually homemade DVD-R copies of the first season for sale on ebay. Personally, I thought the best thing about the mini-series DVD (besides great picture and sound) are the extras, the commentary and deleted scenes especially. I'd rather hold out for the official release...

A friend DL'd all the SkyOne showings of the episodes, burned them to DVD-R, formatted them w/menu's & extra's and gave me a copy. While it might not include all the extra's that the formal, official version will, he's got a bit there that certainly hasn't appeared here in the US airings of the episodes. It also won't keep me from buying the official DVD Season 1 set when it comes out.

Has anyone checked out the "podcasts" available on the show's official site? They are audio commentaries for episodes in MP3 format. Download them to your MP3 player or burn them to an audio CD and hit "play" when you see the words "Humanity created the Cylons" on the screen. There are four or five of the last episodes available on the site (including both halves of the season finale). I just found this stuff yesterday, but the files were made available prior to the airing of each episode in question. A very cool thing -- totally free of charge. They even have audio cues to tell you when to pause playback for commercials if you download the entire commentary as one file (you can also get each act separately).

??

99.99% of DVD release dates for Canada and the U.S. are identical.

What shows did the Americans ever get on DVD before Canada?

Maybe I'm thinking of models. You guys get models and toys 2 weeks before us.

I'm still waiting for JL Star Trek to show up here.

Batbob, I picked up JL Star Trek months ago, one day after the US release date... don't know where you're shopping, but you should really take your business elsewhere...

I'll be there on the 23rd of April.

We have tickets for 11 am and 1 pm. I'll be wearing a blue and white Toronto Maple Leafs baseball cap. If you see me say hello.

I never understood why they call themselves "Toronto Maple Leafs" instead of "Toronto Maple Leaves".

Have fun in your brief jaunt to the US!
